The original race was bad ass. It's morphed into the One Lap Of America. But a few years back I was coming home from work, on 85 south, and I got passed by an Ultima. And then by a Trans Am. And then a GT40 replica. How did I know it was a replica? Because nobody would drive a real GT40 on the freeway. So I pulled off at the next exit and turned into the first gas station and what was fueling up? The GT40 replica. Tiny little car - I mean tiny. The owner walked up while his "copilot" was fueling and we spoke for a few minutes and he let me sit in the car. Turned out it was Dennis Olthoff.

I don't know if you are talking about The French Connection (Pontiac LeMans) or The Seven Ups (Pontiac Grand Ville), both contain EPIC car chase footage, arguably the three best chase scenes of all time.
I LOVE Bullitt. When Ford came out with the 2001 Bullitt Mustang I bought one, which I traded for a Mach 1 in 2003.
I'm a mustang dude too. I've had a 65, 69, 76 Cobra, 88 GT, 04 convertible and an 05 v-6 sports coupe. The 65 had a 289 with these huge rear tires it could barely turn. Looked cool though. 69 had a slighty built 351 windsor. Fun but not real fast. 76 Cobra was a turd. V-6 with a 4 speed. The 88 Gt was my fave. 5.0 with a 5 speed stick. I ripped all the GT trim off and replaced it with the stock mustang trim. The GT back bumper was like a parachute. That sucker could fry them tires. Sorry I got rid of it after I blew up the tranny. Chose the v-6 over the v-8 in the 05 because the stock GT was ten grand more and not really worth it. Only a few more horses and not much more. Insurance savings were signficant also.Comment

We have another Mustang guy in here as well, qikgts."Don't want 'em to get you goat, don't show 'em where it's hid." - David Lee RothComment

Very cool. I have had a 1984 GT, a 1990 GT 'vert, a 1995 Cobra, a 2001 Bullitt, a 2003 Mach 1 which I sold last year and I currently have a 1993 5.0 coupe and a 1986 GT with t-tops. The most wicked one was the '90, it had aftermarket heads, cam, intake, headers, gears, ect. and was tons of fun to drive.

I was looking at an early 80's Gt recently. Black with t-tops carbed 302 with a 4 speed. The guy wanted 1500. I offered him 1000. It had been sitting many years and everything was dry rotted. The carb part turned me off too. I prefer fuel injection in those cars. He passed on my offer.Got a friend back home building a 69 Mach One. Frame up restoration. My dream car is a 55 Chevy gasser like the one in Two Lane Blacktop. Almost had one a few years ago. Completely gutted, straight axle, buick nailhead motor with a 2 speed powerglide. Black primer, fiberglass tilt front end, fenderwell headers. Needed a complete restoration. Dude wanted 10,000 I offered 8,000. He offered straight accross for my 57 Bel Aire that was in almost perfect condition. End of conversation.American by birth. Southern by the grace of God.

I like those older cars, they are getting hard to find unmolested and rust free. The first year for fuel injection in 49 state cars was 1986. I have always wanted a t-top car, I can't wait to finish mine."Don't want 'em to get you goat, don't show 'em where it's hid." - David Lee RothComment

It was actually a 210 with "Bel Air" trim. And I spent many nights working on it. Turquoise 2-door sedan with a white and black interior, 327, 2 speed powerglide with 15" rallys. Basically restored with a newer engine. It still needed some new chrome trim when I sold it. I had a real "Bel Air Deluxe" hardtop in high school. Bought it for almost nothing from a friend of the family. It was just sitting in their garage rotting. I put a 283 out of a 67 biscayne wagon in it. Added headers and a four barrel, ET mags and an Earl Sheib paint job. Some bitch I picked up hitch hiking stole it and they found it in a ravine in Griffith Park in LA.Comment

I had two TAs, a 1978 black/tan/gold without t-tops, 400/auto car and a 1973 white/tan/blue 455/4 speed car. That 455 car was ungodly, I had it bored 0.030 over, Ram Air cam and a few other goodies. It kept breaking torque side motor mounts, it would break a brand new mount out of the box with one powershift."Don't want 'em to get you goat, don't show 'em where it's hid." - David Lee RothComment
