He's hated Brett for ages because he keeps going psycho on his site and starting fights and ends up getting banned. Brett doesn't usually ban people permanently, and in this case, he should have. I refused to do it after this place re-opened because I've since considered Brett a friend, so naturally, there were a few that considered me a "fag" for being nice to Brett (GUWAPO also attacked me partly for standing up for Brett). Anyway, ALBERT (VH LINKS SUCKS' real name) starts these insane attacks, and has also posted as VAN HLN and VAN SQUALEN (not the real VAN SQUALEN who is a Links poster and posts here as VANSQUALEN because his name was stolen by ALBERT). Some months back, during the thick of the GUWAPO/RIKK wars, ALBERT pm's me out of nowhere and asks me to do him a favor. I wasn't sure who he really was at that point. He asked me to write him a short essay on why Dave is better than Sam for a "debate contest" he's in on the internet and that his prize would be $500. I thought it was weird but was kinda honored because he said I'm a "good writer". So I sent him a short blurb. He thanked me, and asked if I need anything. I told him that it would be nice if he jumped into one of our GUWAPO fights and just threw shit at GUWAPO. (This shit was really getting ugly with GUWAPO at the time...dude was on a real witchhunt.) VH LINKS SUCKS didn't post anything, but his alias (yes, another one) DAVID LEE ROTH (yes, that was his alias) jumped in and told GUWAPO to fuck off. I thought it was hilarious. Later on, he PM'd me again and told me something like he's in the semis (again, this is all from memory) and needed another short essay. I thought this was really weird because each time he pm'd me, he was close to winning the prize. Anyway, it was exam time for me, but he kept going and I finally sent him something. I, of course as is typical with my moblike mentality, wanted a favor and asked him to write another blurb to FAB or someone as his famous DAVID LEE ROTH character. The shit was amusing. There were people at the site that actually thought this alias really was DAVID LEE ROTH!! He did so, but then became more obsessive and asked me again and then again for more writing shit. This was beyond fucking weird. I was just doing a favor...but later when he "won" and we were "fighting", he claimed stupidly that lots of posters were writing for him and mine sucked...really crazy behavior...

Anyway, in the middle of all this, he asked me to PM Brett because he noticed that I'm cool with Brett...he wanted Brett to let him back into the Links because GOO had banned him. I didn't want to get involved, so I just told Brett exactly what had happened, told him I didn't even know the guy very well, but he was asking me to ask Brett to let him back in. Brett told me it was Goo who had banned him anyway, and he didn't want to go back on his decision. I told ALBERT, he seemed okay with it...and then, I don't remember exactly when, he went fucking nuts. He accused me of being Brett's fag friend, etc...he went crazy and brought me into it all...started posting some of our PMs, making it look like I had begged him all the time to do shit, etc. It was really fucked. GUWAPO was even sending him info on me...seriously! GUWAPO was totally in cahoots at one point with this psycho...the next on the GUWAPO list of absolute psychos that just harm the site that he's aligned with.

Then, out of nowhere, ALBERT calmed down and apologized again and again...real psycho shit. Apparently, he did the same to Brett. Then, out of nowhere...he went nuts again! And the fight began, ALBERT's constant spamming, threats...he made a ton of anti-Semetic comments towards Brett, etc. Totally pathetic. And it's been love ever since.

Dude comes back every once in a while, revives or starts a thread about Brett (or starts one on me...one day he started a thread on me in every single forum at the site)...and goes nuts. Eventually, he realizes he's losing and goes away...but that often takes a couple of weeks. He posts the same shit over and over, tells people they're owned, calls them "fag"...

Little trivia note...some of the characteristics I put in MY version of THREE LOCK ROCK came directly from ALBERT's behavior...

A little note on our resident psychotics (ALBERT and that other person...): They more often would rather post at the Links but can't anymore. So, they come here because we offer freedom of speech, which Brett doesn't. (That's not a jab at Brett...he knows we're more "liberal" about that than he is, and that's cool.) Because we allow people to basically do what they want, we have side-effect of total psychotics like ALBERT of the other person going absolutely bananas and knowing that nobody will do anything about it. It's a side-effect...sad, but there's little we can do about it except ban the psychos which is usually a last resort. But you know what they say: "You can't teach an insane person that the sun isn't purple."

BLACK N' BLUE is one of my favorite Van Hagar songs. I like it so much because it is much rawer and reminds me of the Dave days. It's not nearly as polished as some of the other "corporate" stuff. It is probably the main reason OU812 is my favorite Van Hagar album. It's great to know that I'm not the only one who loves the song!

As for CAN'T GET THIS STUFF NO MORE, the music was apparently written and recorded during the BALANCE sessions as "BACKDOOR SHUFFLE." Dave recorded new vocals over it for the BEST OF (ME WISE MAGIC was brand new), and Hagar apparently later sued the band because Dave slightly borrowed the melody on the chorus from Sam's original vocal (he had an out-of-court settlement for $5000).

I'm talking the '77 demos, outtakes from the Dave albums (I know for a fact there are a few unreleased and probably finished songs from DIVER DOWN and 1984 and probably one or two that have been written about from VH II), plus alternate takes or versions from these albums. Then you can move on to live stuff...there was apparently a 1984 live album that was recorded and partially mixed. Put some of that on this set (or ALL of it). Then move on to 5150 and the other albums, all having unreleased songs (there are maybe six from F.U.C.K., "I Want Some Action" from 5150 and a few from BALANCE). Get BETWEEN US TWO on a record finally, throw in the outtakes from VH3 and the second MACH III album if you have to, then close it off with the three tracks recorded with Dave in 2000. Done! That's more than enough for a box set if you throw in some retrospective live material and maybe a couple of Eddie demos.

This is what the fans deserve.
