I find that offensive as well. And I pretty much vote a straight democratic ticket aside from a few local judges and county comissioners I know personally and think are doing an excellent job.

Although it is true that BoF has failed to put forward any real solution while making generic oversimplifications and rattling obnoxiosly about the past, I think a valid point can be remotely inferred from his ramblings that there is a large gap between the way it is and the way it ought to and was set up to be. "It" being the system of government we have in place.

I have racked my brain for nearly 20 years now trying to figure out the way to narrow that gap and have come up short of solutions that don't require most Americans (myself included) to become significantly more educated about a vast array of issues that are extremely complicated and difficult to grasp in the spare time we all have to devote to this endeavor.

Unfortunately, although I admire your spirit, Elly, I do not believe that simply writing on blogs and for the local editorial pages, and calling and contacting our congressmen alone is going to do the trick. Perhaps that coupled with major changes to the way we elect our leaders might go some way towards a solution (i.e. making it so that it doesn't cost several tens of millions of dollars to run for public office and an honest school teacher has just as much a chance of winning a seat as an old-money career politician).
