It's actually $255 million*, which could employ 5,000 for one year at a salary of over $50k...decent wage. What if he pledged to create/save only 1,000 jobs with that money? They could be paid over $50k annually for 5 years, then you would expect that whatever they are doing would be somewhat productive and generate earnings and profit as well.

I'm all for charity, and it's his money to do what he wishes with, but there are a lot of problems we have right here at home I believe should take precedence before we help people in other countries. A big problem with overseas undeveloped countries is that a lot of the aid gets commandeered by guerrillas and local militias, and the people it was meant to serve suffer.

I know, I'm a horrible evil person for thinking we should take care of our own first. I just see so many homeless, unemployed, sick, hungry, disabled people on our own streets, and then hear about all this aid going overseas.

      Apologies for the wrong number.

I think having M$ on their CV's will mean these people will be able to get other jobs even in todays climate. Or maybe they'll go off and create their own businesses.

Not to be a rain on your parade type of guy about this passing of this stimulas package or so called welfare package. How does spending hundreds of millions on std programs and other bullshit, create more jobs.

The last big stimulas package went out the door and into the big greedy, banks, mortage and auto CEO's pockets and can't even be accouted for, and that one was pushed by Bush.

You want to create more jobs. Give money to all the small buisness's in this country so they can hire the true workforce that this nation depends on.

Stop giving away Gov. money to people who only know how to walk to their mailbox and doesn't want to get off their lazy asses to get a job. Yea fair, let's give people who doesn't even pay taxes a tax rebate check.

A true stimulas package should be about creating jobs, putting more money into the working consumers hands to spend. Not about funding some off the wall programs that only benifit certain people in washington.

See i may have stood up for the tough Bush policies and even stand up for Some of Obama's. At heart though, i am an independent that want's to see this country prosper, no matter who sit's in the oval office.

Why not just get some serious tax cuts quickly in order rather than pulling over One Trillion Dollars out of thin air ??

Tax cuts for who? It's the tax cuts for the rich that are responsible for a lot of this shit.

The reality is that both sides aren't too innocent in this.

The buyers were stupid for looking/buying houses that were WAAAAY out of their budget and not stopping to think when the mortgage payment amount for each month was presented to them. The banks were dumb for living in the moment and approving them regardless.

Well, a lot of mortgage brokers were baiting and switching and telling people they could afford a bigger house than what they were looking at....there was also a lot of predatory lending going and the use of "teaser rates," which start out low and can skyrocket...

There's blame everywhere, but mostly the banks got away with it because they were able to take on more debt than they were good for because the gov't simply decided to deregulate and not bother to keep people honest...

What I saw in my neighborhood wasn't so much people buying houses they couldn't afford, but the value of their home skyrocketing over a short period of time. Suddenly everyone had $200k+ equity and was sittin' pretty. Loans were made, swimming pools were being built left and right, home decoration stores were flourishing as everyone wanted the house from Better Homes & Gardens. Now that house prices took a dive, people are fucked and in many cases it's easier to just let the house go.

Yes, there was some of that. But remember that because of the policies put forth by Carter and Clinton lenders were pressured - heavily - by the gub-nent to make these loans to people who couldn't really afford it. Then when Fannie / Freddie were involved in shenanigans and Bush and Republicans tried many times to reform in it was people like DODD and FRANK and WATERS that blocked it.

The housing / mortgage problem is 100% the fault of bad Democrat policies and politicians.
