It's actually $255 million*, which could employ 5,000 for one year at a salary of over $50k...decent wage. What if he pledged to create/save only 1,000 jobs with that money? They could be paid over $50k annually for 5 years, then you would expect that whatever they are doing would be somewhat productive and generate earnings and profit as well.
I'm all for charity, and it's his money to do what he wishes with, but there are a lot of problems we have right here at home I believe should take precedence before we help people in other countries. A big problem with overseas undeveloped countries is that a lot of the aid gets commandeered by guerrillas and local militias, and the people it was meant to serve suffer.
I know, I'm a horrible evil person for thinking we should take care of our own first. I just see so many homeless, unemployed, sick, hungry, disabled people on our own streets, and then hear about all this aid going overseas.
