I can probably name dozens of instances where individual soldiers, airmen, sailors, spies, etc., have fought suicidally with little religious inclination because they believed their actions were critical and for the greater good of their nations...

And 9/11 happened for a lot of reasons, namely a fascist-cult called al Qaida who seem to murder far more other muslims than they do Americans or Europeans and Asians...

And Timothy McVeigh wasn't a Muslim. He was a nice, conservative white Western New York Christian boy (by the stilted definitions of religion here) who hated "liberals" and "abortionists"--yet managed to become a world class baby-killer...

And it's not ALL just religion, there's a heavy dose of political grievances, some of which have NOTHING to do with past U.S. foreign policy evils. A lot of it was Bin Laden was pissed about the price of oil...
