It is no myth, Gregory. Though FORD may hath simplified the situation by suggesting Dad should "melt down dinosaurs in a microwave", the fact remaineth that the oil, coal, and natural gas in thy planet is a limited resource which took a long time (even by My standards) to come into existence, and because of that, they are not renewable. And the oil in particular is disappearing fast.
Do not be deceived by those whose primary motivation is their own greed, My son. "Fossil fuels" are not sustainable, nor is the damage they do to thy planet. Do ye forget that Dad told Adam & Eve to take care of Our Creation?Comment

I'm trying to work out where you are getting this from.
I think what is happening is a confusion of climate change denial and a little bit of science presented in a ludicrously aggressive and wrong way.
The actual facts of it is that there is methane on other planets. That means that there may be well be abiotic(i.e. non fossil fuel) sources of methane.
Fine, interesting too. Now we combine it with crazy psuedo science and some wild jumps.
Just because there may be other sources of methane doesn't mean that there are other sources of oil.
Also just because there are other ways to make methane doesn't mean that the methane on Earth isn't biotic. Almost all of it is.
We know where the oil we drill for comes from. How do you think they find it? There is a whole science of geology here.
Also if even if there were some other huge almost unlimited source of hydrocarbons deep within the Earth, that's irrelevant if we can't get to it.
And finally the more you find and then burn the more likely that man made actions will affect global climate. It doesn't matter where it comes from it's what you do with it that matters.Comment

We can burn coal, natural gas, use nuclear power or develop a new exotic energy source. Maybe this scare will light the fire on a huge goal to create a new clean energy source that doesn't pollute and doesn't require fracking wells or strip mining. Windmills just are too expensive and too inefficient to be a primary source and solar has it's niche but you can't run heavy industry with it. Maybe that could be the next technological revolution that jump starts the economy again.No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment
