Because most of them rejected Christianity when they have had ample opportunity to sign up and get wet in the baptismal font. Of course it doesn't matter that they seem to live Christ like values pretty well during a disaster. You know things like sharing resources and helping your neighbor. But then if you read the new testament Jesus was calling out the Jews for thinking they were so special. If Jesus came back he would be chewing out the Christians.

Maybe all this is a lesson to show actions and behaviors are more important than what particular religious fraternity you belong to at the time. It's pretty simple shit. When someone says they have the only exclusive link to God, then it's time to take your money and run like hell. The bullshit meter should be ringing pretty damn loud on that one.

The New Madrid fault line runs right up through the bible belt. It's due for a big quake and looking at how many we have been having lately, maybe we will get to see how the good old boy Christians handle their fate when the New Madrid rips them a new one. The smug Mormons built right smack on the Wasatch fault line on soil that liquifies when shaken. Yeah. That will be interesting to watch as well.

My uncle is a nuclear physicist. He worked at Los Alamos for most his career. He's retired now. I wanted to get his opinion but he's on vacation right now. There are so many different opinions out there on this disaster it's hard to know what the truth is.

The media tends to sensationalize everything while governments tend to downplay everything. When the earthquake and tsunami happened, the initial death toll was hundreds, now it's thousands. I wouldn't be surprised if it's tens of thousands after they finish the clean-up, whenever that happens. The radiation leak from the plant could follow the same trajectory. The press initially claims it's a "meltdown". The government tells people not to worry too much. Fifty years from now the cancer rate in that part of Japan rises slightly.

Nobody trusts the press or the government. Then they think any expert that says it's not as bad as the press says it is must be paid off by the nuclear energy industry. There was the stone age, the bronze age, the iron age, and now we live in the scam age. Everything seems to be a scam and when they come out with a solution for the previous scam, it turns out to be a bigger scam. If you could run a turbine off of lies and hot air, we could have a power plant in every state house and city council building.

This guy is an idiot. You know how many windmills it would take to replace the nuclear plants? They are only efficient when the wind is blowing 30 knots. As things stand the Japanese can choose coal or nuclear. They chose nuclear. So until something more exotic is invented they probably will stay nuclear unless of course this thing turns into the armageddon he thinks it is.

Windmills are only one option. Japan is a relatively small island nation, so they would be more likely to use tidal power, or (being on the Pacific Rim) possibly adding some geothermal energy into it.

Here in the US, wind turbines would work well in some areas where wind is a constant or near constant, and solar would be a better option where the sun shines 360 days a year.

What Thom is saying is that the Japanese have taken the lead in technology and innovation in recent decades, and as such, would be the logical choice to lead in this area even before this natural disaster (earthquake) led into the man-made nuclear disaster (for which the bulk of the blame falls on General Electric's corporate greed and insane design.)

One company wants to tap the geothermic heat in the ground here and run turbines. The environmentalists say no way because it would be just outside of Yellowstone National Park. I've looked at their plans and you wouldn't even see the power plant from the roads where the tourists go. We are sitting on one of the world's biggest volcanos and all you would have to do is drill down to where it's hot enough to boil water and make steam. It gets no cleaner than that. Nothing to burn and no radioactive materials to deal with.

There's a lot of methane suspended in the ocean. I know the Japanese are already harvesting methane from the sea.
