Anyway, when I get there, I discover that I'm one of the very few people in the crowd without a powdered wig on, or holding a sign with a picture of Obama with a Hitler moustache drawn on it, or a swastika painted over his face. There were also people holding up pictures of the holocaust. At this point, given my heritage, I should've been bashing these people in the motherfucking mouth...
    .....but I be cool.
There were various folks screaming things from the stage like "socialist" and "marxist", sometimes in the same damn sentence, if you can imagine that. I sat and listened to them one by one, but their rants were so various and scattered that there really wasn't any food-for-thought, or anything of substance worth remembering.
The place was also outlined with concession stands where you can purchase Sarah Palin t-shirts, buttons, bumper-stickers, autographed butt-plugs, and various other merchandise.
I remember leaving that place feeling just as much tension, and had twice as many unanswered questions as I had going in.

It had all the essential ingredients of a hate rally, but I think they called it a "Tea Party" or something like that.
That's just one of the many incidents and examples, but I suppose we could start with that one....
Thanks for the reply. I know a lot of people that attended those rallies here. None of them hate gays or women or the poor or Muslims. Maybe it's different in your area.
I've got the cure you're thinkin' of.

It's a very good message to have, and I never believed it was reserved for one group of people over the other.

My dad had always had a great quote about where is a great place to put yourself in regards to shaping yourself politically. "Fiscally conservative, Socially liberal".

What I had begun to notice during the Bush presidency though, was this..step away from the usual discourse, and how many in the GOP had flung themselves at several extremists, and social conservatism began to shape policy.

Towards the waning days, it just began to grow progressively worse and worse. Shamefully, I used to actually admit to liking Glenn Beck at one point, but I had noticed how batshit insane he was beginning to become.

I remember when I finally nailed down that he had finally lost it was during the Inauguration. While images were shown of a great occasion in this nation's history, I could over hear him talking on Faux New in just this paranoid sense, and to me it really came off as disrespectful and petty.

Suddenly there was this change in how Politics were done. People were now being stamped on as "Socialists", when it was clearly being uttered by people with zero clue as to what that original meaning was. You had groups like "The Tea Party" come out, and what was once a movement about lowering taxes and ensuring that the government had more accountability, ended up being hijacked by paranoid assholes who were convinced that the president was a "Muslim" and hellbent on taking away peoples guns, and transforming this into the USSR pt. deux. Drawing fucking Hitler mustaches on his picture, and again, just flat out being disrespectful to a man who had really didn't deserve criticism of that magnitude.

Now? The "Moral Majority" crowd is trying to make a comeback, and hitching their wagon back to the GOP. Their objectives are probably amongst the most un-christlike things I've ever seen.

It's disgusting that Big Business, Lobbyists of both sides, are able to hold this much control over this country. And no one ever bats an eye.

In between this, and this country's celebration of the mediocrity of "The redneck/simple life" lifestyle, I've never felt this ashamed to ever be an American.
I think they are crazy too. I like the libertarians.

I disagree with pretty much everyone here politically, but you guys are still my bros. I suppose of our political pontificates here I would most closely agree with Dr. Love. I often see both sides making horrible assumptions and throwing nitpicky inconsequential stuff around over real issues. Neither side (going with the idea that there are only two) understands what motivates the other. Certain ideologies are incompatible depending on how the idea is approached. A person who is for smaller government will be for cutting social program. A person who cuts social programs must be against the poor and ethnic. Is fair everyone paying the same portion or is fair progressive paying more or less depending on means?...not an easy answer. Is equality believing that everyone has the same abilities to make their own way, or is it targeting some groups for a hand up to try to level the playing field?...not an easy answer. People make the mistake of thinking that there are haters and non-haters. It's not who hates...it's who they hate. When it comes to putting labels on people, our own Ford is the high priest, but when you're on his side, you don't see that it's just as bad as the tea party yelling Marxist and communist.

No doubt there are racists out there. I wonder how in this day and age it is possible, but I wonder the same thing when I hear of child predators. I wonder how there can be so many of something that's so wrong. Race doesn't exist. There is many times more variation within our so-called race parameters than there are between them. Humans are 99% identical. More identical than most organisms on earth. I am so non-racist that I won't even identify myself as having a race anymore.

Barack Obama's race is not important. He doesn't even have a race. Whether he's constitutionally eligible to be president is pretty important. But I am resigned at this point to the fact that if on the remote chance that he was born elsewhere, it's too late to worry about it now. I was for the Iraq war, but it accomplished nothing. Shouldn't have happened. But, nobody here knows who falisified intelligence or if they did at all. No WMD's does not mean Saddam didn't want us to think he had some. I think DLR said it best when he characterized Saddam as a parole violator. The tie to 9/11 was the only real fraud here. Yes, the Bush administration took advantage of the post 9/11 fear to engage Saddam. Bush did nothing he promised to do in his second term, and I was gravely disappointed. Obama has similarly failed to change anything and for the same reasons. They can't. We ascribe a lot of power to the president that he really does not have. The difference between the nation with Romney at the helm or Obama at the helm is negligible. Nothing of true importance or lasting importance will happen.

Congress has a lot of power, but will not exercise it. The less they do, the more likely they are to get elected. As much as the right tends to hate the courts. I think when it comes down to brass tacks..our court system is the only one working correctly. I can't even understand what "legislating from the bench" means. Ruling on laws is their job.

Just a couple days ago, I saw a right wing idiot post a picture of Michelle Obama deboarding a plane wearing summer attire next to one of Laura Bush in a pants suit and questioning the "class" of the Obamas. I'm sorry, but none of my complaints about the Obamas have anything to do with what they wear on vacation. This kind of trivial mudslinging is unbelievable. This kind of stuff comes from both sides and everyone is wrong in some way of thinking.

I'm for gay marriage...or maybe I should day not against it. The truth is...it does nothing to me. Any adult can marry any other consenting adult as far as I'm concerned. I have no reason to judge a woman's need to not go through with a pregnancy. I don't care if every Mexican and Central American moves to the US to work as long as there is demand. I want the occupy movement and the tea party movement to assemble and speak their minds.

I also don't want the government to take my money. I also don't want them to take your money. I don't want health care paid for by the tax payers--this give society the right to make decisions for me. I promise that each and every one of you has something you like to do that society in general will deem dangerous and they won't want to pay for your injuries if something bad happens. I don't want tax money to fund peoples freedoms, because dependence on society is not freedom. Freedom is self-reliance, and to the extent to which we can, we should promote self reliance. Yes, we need certain bits of infrastructure. I support fire departments and roads...so don't start with that. I don't want the government monitoring me in any way. No Patriot Act crap. No traffic cams. No email scans. Now TV's, game consoles, computers, and phones will have cameras and tracking chips in them. Big Brother is here, and we're lining up to equip ourselves.

There are so many things desperately wrong. But we can't stop fighting long enough to worry about that stuff. People don't hate as much as you think. Those that hate do exist, but they are truly the exception, not the rule. The system is broken and the citizens are blaming each other. We all occupy a space and the more we try to regulate class and freedom the brighter the class war will burn. None of us have the power to change each others minds. the real challenge is that we need to see if we can find what we have in common. That's going to be the hard task. But until we do...nothing will change but through those acting behind the scenes that we don't notice when we are fighting over what someone is or is not allowed to do when it deprives no one of life, liberty or property.

Is that not enough? A minimum of a trillion dollars spent, over a hundred thousand casualties including thousands of children and Americans and you were disappointed with his second term?

[QUOTE]It's just that those that have been doing the hating simply disguise it by using some meaningless rhetoric, rather than coming right out and saying what they're thinking in the first place....

Just because you don't believe with conservatives on some of these isss don't mean they are "haters." Actually , I contend that liberals "hate" more than conservatives do

If you want to call them insults, fine, just acknowledge that they go both ways and I can agree with that......
Fine, but I don't post article that deliberately insult, if liberals see them as insulting, fine, but that in itself is very telling.

our left and right play off each other, exactly like yours do. filling the days in parliament with unimportant paff mixed in with really important stuff that will influence decades to come. generations to come. but the deal makers and breakers don't care; they'll be gone to heaven in a little row boat, and the family will live off the company float.
