Well, it's true that they DO make washing machines with LAN connections now, but it's one HELL of a stretch to say it's a spy device. Don't even think there's a webcam or anything like that involved, just a simple monitor of the machine itself. Though I suppose it COULD actually be useful to have a camera built in, for a home security application, since the typical laundry room is either in the basement, or near the back door to most houses.

What Paranoid Alex SHOULD be concerned about is the fact that the Chinese were the first to market with this idea.

I'm sure the government is seriously interested in whether or not I'm using hot AND cold water, and whether I'm adding fabric softener in the rinse cycle of not...
