for what reason would the government have to do this? to take the focus off of the economy? it will. for about a week. maybe 2. but well before the election it will be back in prime focus. and don't say stricter gun control. because that NEVER leads to even a cursory argument with any elected officials on whether we should change gun laws.

so for this to even be a semi-plausible conspiracy theory, you'd have to have the government risking a SIGNIFICANT amount at getting caught, all for practially a guaranteed nothing. i'm not saying it's impossible the government has ever been a part of a conspiracy. but this isn't it.
