While in the throws of arguing that false equivalency with someone, I had said that if guitars suddenly became the weapon of choice for psychopathic mass murderers, I would completely understand if it were to become more difficult to acquire one.

A point missed by the idiot you were arguing with, I'd be willing to bet...

The hideousness is part of its killer reputation. I think some of the newer, modernized versions and the AK-74 variants look much better...

Drunk drivers kill hundreds if not thousands of people every day in the USA. Exponentially higher than gun deaths.

Should it therefore be harder for everyone to acquire a car?

Here is the difference: Mental illness (generally) is not avoidable, although the psychotic episodes from drugs is entirely avoidable.

Drinking and driving is (generally) avoidable.

It is a fact according to FBI stats that unarmed populaces experience way more violent crime than armed populaces.

Do people need AK-47's? No. But banning weapons is ridiculous.

You are missing the point. At least from me. Just comparing things we are not supposed to have, yet we have anyways. In Mexico any gun is BIG TIME illegal. Yet look at all the gun violence down there. Making guns illegal to own here will not help stop tragedies like last Friday. We need to concentrate on who is allowed to buy guns....not which guns people can't buy.

That's because the Mexican drug lords don't buy their guns in Mexico.

They buy them from wackjob gun nuts at gun shows in Arizona and Texas. As do most of these psycho killers who wouldn't be able to buy one at a licensed gun shop or the local WalFart.

The problem with what happened last Friday wasn't so much a matter of where the guns were purchased. Not that I know where they were purchased, but I'm assuming that Mrs. Lanza didn't have a criminal record until I've heard otherwise. Whether she was sane or not is probably open to interpretation, especially given her apparent love of extremist conspiracy militia nonsense.

But where she went horribly wrong was not properly securing her weapons from her wackjob son. Had she not been the first victim in this fucked up tragedy, she would be sitting in a jail cell right now awaiting murder charges, and deservedly so. Guess she got the death penalty without wasting time and money on a trial or 12 years of appeals.

She would have been charged with murder? How so?

The problem is mental illness fueled by synthetic drugs. Period. Not to mention the fucked-up culture of the good-ole-US-of-fucking-A. Land of the free (yeah right)

Do you really think Adam Lanza or any other psychotic killer with mental illness would not have killed without the A-4?

I'll bet that he would have killed even more kids with a chainsaw otherwise. Lock a school room, and tell me you can't kill as many or more people with a chainsaw who have no way out?

In the most perfect of circumstances, she would need to have the guns securely locked away.

This scenario at her home was far from perfect. To leave the guns readily available in these circumstances would likely have been a criminal charge of some kind if leaving them available led to someone committing a murder with them

                                Negligence? Maybe.

                                Stupidity? Yes.

Murder? Maybe in a communist society.

                                Excusable? No

It still remains: Insanity coupled with murderous psychotic drugs probably caused this and probably other shooting rampages by otherwise non-violent people without histories of violence.

Guns were a tool, not the cause.

He would have used some other tool to commit mass murder had no guns been available.

                                Peri-fucking-id.
