Jay, You're right. They will NEVER get EVERYONE's guns. It's too late for that. There are too many in circulation. Absolutely right. 100% agree .
I still think they're gonna do their best. The arrogance shown by the last two administrations (especially) gives me little hope for the future of the Constitution in many regards (not only 2nd amendment).
I also think that turning responsible gun owners into the "bad guys" is the wrong way to go.
I personally believe that the real problem is societal. We don't have a Gun problem as much as we have a fucked up people problem. It's our American sick culture.
We can take away all the black colored, scary looking guns from responsible citizens. That still doesn't address the underlying problem of what's making certain people think that they can resolve their personal problems with a firearm. Michael Moore himself said as much.
They'll probably turn to machete's and bayonets ? I dunno.

Please point to an instance where someone (besides ELBOW the nutjob) has said that was going to happen, or anywhere where someone's said there's a "need" for a TOTAL ban?

I get that impression from annoying British TV hosts and a few posters on here. That's fine if you don't.

But, what is going to keep criminals from picking up assault weapons once banned? Laws? Just like drug dealers make billions off of the drug war, crime from automatic weapons is going to skyrocket. If your victims only have handguns and shotguns, how about upgrading to an AK?

I haven't seen anyone here suggest a total gun ban. Couldn't happen. But as I mentioned before, penalities should be drastically increased for criminal use of said weapons after an assault rifle ban. Here's an idea - instead of draconian mandatory sentencing for drugs, how about instead such measures be implemented for using an assault rifle to commit a crime?
