"The Whiskey Rebellion demonstrated that the new national government had the willingness and ability to suppress violent resistance to its laws. The whiskey excise remained difficult to collect, however. The events contributed to the formation of political parties in the United States, a process already underway. The whiskey tax was repealed after Thomas Jefferson's Republican Party, which opposed Hamilton's Federalist Party, came to power in 1800."
The people may not have won an immediate victory - but they didn't lose either - the tax was hard to collect & then repealed ... seems the resistance indeed had an impact on policy - w/o arms there would have been no resistance & no impact on federal policy
good lesson to remind people that sometime even a gov't can be misguided and needs correctionComment

good thing the citizens had access to arms - if there were more of em - they coulda changed history sooner..

local paper today reported a 16 y/o is going to get 3 1/2 yrs state prison or less for good behavior for firing an illegal handgun in a crowd
guns are not the problem - the lack of enforcement of our CURRENT laws is - this kid could be back on the street before age 20 & back with his buddies & with all that new found thug life in prison -- this kid will have street cred ..
what message does the lack sentence show other gang thugs ? what is 3 1/2 yrs for using an illegal handgun ? seems a disgrace to our justice system -
thought there was a federal minimum of 10 yrs for an illegal handgun - oh well those crazy kids - boyz in da hood will be boyz in da hood
good thing people want those evil AR-15's confiscated .. they do so much harm in so many neighborhoods ..Comment

You can thank the stupid drug war for that. We're throwing pot smokers in prison,( judges discretion, not we, unless there is a mandatory minimum like there was for crack cocaine v. powder that has since been repealed for racial bias reasons ) while violent offenders are allowed to roam free via early release.
having an illegal handgun is bad according to many laws, state and federal, most people would do 10 yrs or more
- firing a handgun in a public crowd if legally owned and possessed would also result in a serious sentence and a charge of some attempted crime more than likely, because intent would be addressed in most uses of a handgun...
this 16 y/o was not given youthful offender status which is good - but the sentence was a disgrace to intent of laws to deter future crime with severe punishment for serious crimes
still don;t see the how or why the AR-15's need to be confiscated, restricted, banned - rifles are bulky and awkward, hard to conceal and not very good for transient crime - like a handgun isComment

hey there Mr. Buffalo NY .. I am 2 hrs east of ya
the fault with using 1989 RR quote is 2 fold imho -
1 he was suffering dementia by then and not full capacity as a decider & even if he had lucid moments ..
2- use of the term MACHINE GUN implies FULL AUTO
AR-15's and others now banned in NYS or considered for a ban are by current law, semi-auto - therefore not machine guns - rather simple rifles - no different than any other pump, lever action or semi auto any firearm considered not assault anythingComment

A machine-gun is actually a light support weapon or a general purpose machine-gun. The AK is an assault rifle...Last edited by Nickdfresh; 01-24-2013, 07:46 PM.Comment
