Yeah, I remember him saying his original got lost in shipping, but thankfully he got it back.
You know, I still don't understand what happened in Ed's head that made him want to get away from that tone. I mean, how can he think his tone with the 5150 amps was better than the original brown sound? Perhaps it was a durability issue, in that he felt that lugging around vintage amps was too big of a risk, and I can see that point. However, now there are plenty of replica manufacturers of those old Marshalls out there now, and there is really no excuse for shit ass tone. The replicas certainly sound better than the official Marshall reissues.Comment

If you look real close, right under Dave's balls, there are two plexi heads.
One is raw wood, and the other is black.
One of these is the " prized superlead"

Nice! BTW, I've tried a Plexi reissue...not impressed. Wanted to be, but wasn't.
I want to get something along those lines for a little more tonal variety...I'm going to check out some of the replicas...

The specialize in the old Van Halen tone...
I have a purple tolex plexi reissue that sounds really nice, even compared to my '69 Super Bass and '73 Super Lead...
I'm thinking of selling my Super Bass...
They're just going for so much money, I can hardly resist...
I don't mind getting $2,500 for an amp I paid 300 bucks for...

Metroamp If you want an EXACT replica of any period Plexi, then this is the place to go. George Metropoulos, owner of the company, is the shiznit. You can have him build it or build it yourself. The dude is super nice and goes out of his way for his customers.

I play very little, and very poorly. I've gotten different opinions from different folks. One person commented that EVH's stuff was all a bunch of trickery, and that RR blows him away. The best guitarist I know personally (MASTODON) commented that whatever effects EVH used back in the day didn't matter....it was all about Eddie's METHOD.
All I can think of is the line in Appacolypse Now where the Sheen dipshit goes, "I don't see any method."
