If we were supposed to keep pulling up stakes and moving from "camp to camp", then we probably wouldn't have had such an issue with Hagar or Cherone...and this place might not exist....at least not in the widespread form that it does now.

Zah, I think you're one of the most intelligent posters on this board and I have a ton of respect for you, but I think you're trying to put lipstick on a pig here. I don't think that DLRF was started to spread diversity or to accomodate the wandering nomads of internet message board posters and I think some of the posts that have come up on this thread since late yesterday sort of validate my perspective. WARF, Warham and the others have made it pretty clear that their motivation was to protest conditions as they perceived them at the Army.

And they are completely free to do as they please. I just didn't understand why things had to go to such extreme measures. Like I said in my previous post...it felt like a long-term solution to a short term problem. Starting an entirely new site is a huge undertaking....so they must have had very strong feelings. I can respect that and disagree with it at the same time.

But it looks like cooler heads are prevailing, and THAT IS THE BEST THING THAT CAN HAPPEN.

I got involved in this whole "issue" because I love this place. I had been away from here for awhile because life is just too fucking busy and came back "steadily" just recently...and when I got here it was utter chaos. Sarge was giving up the site. VA Beach was going to take it. Then VA Beach WASN'T going to take it. A splinter group of old and new school members went out and started a new site. Suddenly I felt like a stranger in a strange land...and in 8 years I NEVER felt like that here.

I want it to feel like it used to feel, and I think we're on our way....
    Thanks for the kind words!!

Make no mistake... I love this place. Especially for what it was the last 14 years... some of what it is today... and not so much of what it has become.

Will it rise once again? Most likely... it's in really good, intelligent and competent hands. Will it be the old Army... Nope. It will retain some of it's roots, dents, scratches, smells... but it grow into something that reflects the new owners, the old timers, the new comers and whatever blossoms from here going forward. I'm not much of a visionary but I do recognize change when it's right in front of me. Change doesn't make friends... it calls the tune we dance to... The dances have already started to change...

That's a good segway into my parting thought... no, I'm really not going anywhere too far off. I thrive on change. Always have...always will. If you've followed me much on the Van Halen/Roth internet journey you'll know I'm not one to burn bridges much... I tend to build a lot... I really prefer leaving bridges firmly intact... I'm a nomad. I'll most likely journey back. That makes bridges handy... Some people don't get that in life.

A good friend of mine once told me the lyrics of this song by the Austin Texas band Vallejo describe me to a tee... enjoy.

    Call me a vagabond
A wanderer out on the run
No matter what my friends have to say
I'm gonna do it all my own way
    Just like a nomad

    I got to be free
Got to do my own thing
And I'm a gonna be moving on
Make a move, stand to lose some
    Here today, gone tomorrow
    Here today, gone tomorrow
    Check it out

Call me crazy if I wanna rule the land
    Without a throne
Nothing can take the freedom from a man
    That's alone
I ain't got nothing to lose
Just gonna hop on my camel and cruise
    Call me a nomad

    I got to be free
    Gotta do my own thing
And I'm a gonna be moving on
Make a move, stand to lose some
    Here today, gone tomorrow

    I'm moving on

Oh and if any of you dumbshits think this is a goodbye post... fuck you!! I'm philosifizing on the interwebz...

So is David Lee Roth on your MSN now? Is this one of the perks of running this site?
