Seriously, this is a cool idea. I watched Sam spill his guts on Australian
TV shortly after he and the sisters fell out of love. Once he starts,
he keeps crapping on. If you can line this up, chances are good for
some juicy goss. Unless he is being promised an album with Van
Hagar ? Then you will surely get the silent treatment...

I think Sam would talk and I think he would be pretty honest. That is one of the reasons why I want to make this happen.

This is a win/win situation in terms of publicity for Sam. If he agrees there would be plenty of press surrounding the whole situatuion ("Roth Fan Takes on Hagar" etc etc) and he may even win over a few fans (not from this site but you get the idea).

I've heard the guy appear on the Howard Stern show before and he said what was on his mind and didn't pull punches. This whole thing could be pretty incredible if he is that candid with me.

For all the members that are wondering what is taking so long:

I have been at this for less than 2 days. This whole ball of wax will not roll overnight.

The only 2 places I have submitted the thread to have been BLABBERMOUTH & Melodicrock. They may pass for now but as the story/idea leaks out they will eventually pick it up. I have plenty of other sources to hit as this progresses.

If people want to help just copy my open letter to Paula (from the start of this thread) and submit it to your local news/entertainment website with an explanation about what is going on. It only takes one outlet to pick it up and the momentum will build from there.

I'm doing this because I want to - I'm doing this because nobody deserves the truth more than the Roth Army!

Good luck on grabbing the interview. I really hope this works out. However, Paula isn't the person you need to be submitting the request to.

The person you need to get a hold of is Janie Hoffman. She was Sam's publicist during the Sam & Dave tour, and I still think they work together because he thanked her on the BOBW liners.

I have her office email and phone number, but do not want to post it here for obvious reasons. Janie is a great lady who will do everything possible to help out. I've dealt with her before on a couple of occasions, and if Sammy is up to doing an interview - she'll make sure it will happen. She takes all requests seriously.

I wish you the best of luck. I've been fortunate enough to interview both Dave (back in 94) and Sam (95 and 2002) and they were both incredibly intelligent, well spoken, courteous, and thoughtful. Although I favor the Dave era of VH over Sam, I still enjoy Sam's contributions to the band as well as his solo stuff. Does that make me a bad person? No - that's just one man's taste in music.

Sam will not dodge any of your questions, as he didn't dodge any of mine. He is very open and honest, and quite opinionated, but not afraid of any question. I hope if this does take place, it will change your opinion of him.

I'm Mezro, one of the Moderators over at the Roth Army site and I wanted to throw a rather intriguing idea your way (and ultimately to Sam).

As you know, David Lee Roth era fans dislike Sam's time with VH and find Van Hagar to be nothing more than a watered down version of a once truly classic band. I'm sure this bothers Sam (what musician doesn't have an ego) and I'm wondering if he would be willing to share his feelings with me? What I propose is a face-to-face interview between myself and Sam. I live in San Francisco so putting us together (in a location of his choice) would not be a problem.

This would be one of the most interesting interviews ever conducted, could be posted on both our sites and would surely gain some pretty amazing media coverage (I'm open to a joint press release). I view this as an opportunity for Sam to speak directly to Roth era fans (via the Roth Army site) and for Roth era fans to explain directly to Sam why we feel he is just fronting VH for a paycheck. But please be forewarned: I will not pull any punches and will not ask the normal, watered down, softball journalist type questions Sam is used to. I'd require at least an hour of Sam's time (but prefer 2 hours) and his willingness to not duck any of the issues. And, if he could bring Michael Anthony into the mix it would truly help clear the air of misconception about what really happened during his departure and the subsequent failed Roth reunion. I hope neither of them have a fragile ego or they may well be in for a shock.

I've read time and time again where Sam has emphatically stated that Van Hagar is the "real" version of VH and that he will debate or defend his position to anyone at anytime. OK. Hello Sam, I'm Mezro....care to debate?
