Never really thought about it, but wouldn't mind posting them if there is that much interest. All 3 of the interviews are on Broadcast Beta SP - so I'm not really sure how to upload them to the board. I'm not the most computer savvy person. But I could log them and post the transcripts here. How does that sound? Actually, a small portion of the DLR interview was used in the VH: The Early Years documentary that came out a couple of years ago. If you guys haven't check that out - it's some pretty kick ass stuff from the CVH era. I'm on vacation, so when I head back to work next week I'll begin transcribing the interviews and will post them here soon.

Always enthusiastic to read a Roth interview, and the Sam one should be interesting too, seeing as how you vanzilla are a bi-partisan supporter of both versions of the party!

I Favor the Dave era, but don't dislike the Sammy era, with the exception of Carnal Knowledge, which was horrible withe the exception of 1 or 2 songs.

I'll put the 94 Roth interview up next week. I'll follow it up with the 2002 interview with Sam (Mike Anthony also sat in with him). They both skirt around the VH issue (Mike especially) but Sammy was not shy in declaring his disdain for Dave, which surprised me. I was very dissappointed that Dave didn't grant me an interview for this tour. Especially since we seemed to hit it off well in 94. But he also turned me down when he was touring in 99, so I wasn't too surprised. From what I can recall, the CVH reunion rumors was in full gear after Cherone's departure, and he was getting mobbed by everyone to confirm it - and because of what happened in 96 didn't want to come out and say anything.


The 94 Dave interview was my first celeb interview. I was 22 - first TV gig - nervous as hell because Dave was a hero of mine, and it's always a mixed bag in meeting one of your idols because you never know what you're going to get. I think Dave picked up on this pretty quickly because he couldn't have been cooler. He even invited us out to dinner with him afterwards and let me up on stage to shoot a part of his show. In my 12 years of working in TV this is one of my favorite memories. I just wish that I hadn't been right out of school, because the quality of my work wasn't as good as it is now - so it's a little embarassing to look back at this stuff.

Give me a couple of weeks to transcribe these and I'll put them up.

I also have an interview with Steve Vai from 96 that is pretty cool. Steve says some great things about Dave, including that he wouldn't mind working with him again. Of course, this interview was taken during the hoopla of the short - lived 96 BOV1 reunion.

An interesting twist on this question would be to mention the fact that although DLR and spammy may not like each other, and members of VH may prefer Hagar, a joint tour would have been much more financially beneficial to all involved. I'm sure the DLR/Sammy tour did better as a joint effort than Sammy could have expected solo.

Side question: Anybody have the numbers on the DLR/Sammy tour vs. Van Hagar Abortion tour '04?? Attendance? Revenue?

Not everything Dave does makes sense to me. You wouldn't think he'd turn down any publicity after the 80's. He could at least give it up for the fans. Man, we've been so desperate for so long.

I'm pretty sure he does read this site and that makes this whole idea even more appealing.

About earning a little respect with Roth fans: he might if he actually does the interview and comes across like a regular guy.
