    Anyone remember "The Wild Life"?

Does anyone remember the old 80's movie "The Wild Life" starring Chris Penn (back when he was skinny), Eric Stoltz, and Leah Thompson? It came out in 85 - it was kind of like a spin off of "Fast Times @ Ridgemont High" - but a little darker. Had the catch phrase: "It's casual".

Ed Van Halen composed the score for that movie. I've been able to find one track "Donut City" - but have had no luck finding any others, or the original soundtrack for that matter. I've also had no luck finding the DVD or VHS and assume they are all out of print.

I've seen the movie a million times (had an old VHS copy that I taped when the movie first came out ) If you listen closely - you can hear that Ed played riffs that were later used in Van Hagar tunes. The piano riff to right now is in there, as well as the riff from AFU. (WAY TO BE A MUSICIAN ED, JUST KEEP RECYCLING)

The original versions differ slightly from what was released with Sam - but they sound cool. Kinda like vintage Ed when he still had some attitude; some game.

If anyone has any clue of how to purchase any of these please let me know. I've tried ebay and amazon and had no luck.

    Thanks.

Maybe this is what a heroine addict feels like after getting a long awaited fix, shooting up in the corner of some abandoned building and just not giving a fuck about what the rest of the world thinks...TATTOO"

Thanks PA! Are you familiar with the soundtrack? I'm not sure if it was ever released?

I remember it Vanzilla and I agree with the vintage Ed comment.
The soundtrack was released but only Donut City was on it.
Some of the music appeared on a boot ( don't know which one)www.vhboots.com

Thanks for the link TNS! I was beginning to think I was the only one that remembered that sound track.

I'll check out the boots and if I find anything other than Donut, I'll let you know.

It's funny - the lengths I'll go to find a 20 year old B movie soundtrack. I've got too much time on my hands sometimes.

          :D

One thing you need to be aware of if you are looking for a copy of the movie is that there were different versions of the music used. Find the oldest copy of the movie you can or you won't get all of the music done for it.
Like the clip that was in Back to the Future was edited out of the Wild Life last time I saw it.

Ah, indeed, I DO remember the wild life. Those were the days.

I would be doing blow with rolled up 100 dollar bills off a penthouse pets ass while getting Dom Perignon intravenously fed into my veins. The limos, the fame, the adulation...

it all came to a crashing end one day, when my liver exploded and my septum collapsed. Now my days are spent at NA meetings, talking with my sponsor, and trying to save young degenerates from making the same mistake of having such a good time.

                The wild life, indeed...

(p.s. van - bill hicks fucking rocks!!!)

No problem. Good luck with the search. The guitar work is worth it.

And yes, Bill Hicks does rock :D

AP - I'm sure your experiences are helping the youth of America stay drug free. I admire your willingness to share your life lessons with others:D

AND BILL HICKS DOES RULE!!!! He's the ALAN THE PANTHER of comedians. I think the world would be a better place if we were all on the same page as Bill. It's hard to believe he's been gone for more than 10 years. And at such a young age. It's amazing that you can pop in his stuff 12 years later and what he's preaching is still relevant today.

"I'll show you politics in America. Here it is, right here. 'I think the puppet on the right shares my beliefs.' 'I think the puppet on the left is more to my liking.' 'Hey, wait a minute, there's one guy holding out both puppets!'" - Bill Hicks.

"The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question: "Is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey, don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride." And we kill those people." - Bill Hicks

are you familiar with this? Picked it up a few onths ago...the routines lose something obviously on the printed page, but it does reprint his entire letter after the letterman fiasco...

first thing I ever heard from him was his yul breenr/jin fixx bit...fucking BRILL!!!

(oh - and check out the easter thread - i ripped off his "I've been through my bible, and nowhere in there do I see the words "chocolate" or "bunny" in there...what the fuck??)

I didn't know that book was out. I have most of his CD's (Arizona Bay, Relentless) I just put the book in my shopping cart. I didn't know about the letter after the Letterman debacle, but I downloaded an interview he did with Stern shortly after that went down, so I'm familiar with the scenario.

Yeh, I did see your Hicks reference on the Easter page! I had one too,

"If it wasn't for the death penalty, there'd be no Easter"

What's funny, I was thinking about starting a Hicks thread up - but this kind of morphed into one.
