Look, I worship Eddie, or Edward, or whatever all these homo's are calling him nowdays. He is my God. Whether he has Roth or Hagar singing, or a pack of rabid midgets... It doesn't matter. As long as he's doin the magic on his Guitar, Life will go on.

Interesting question came to mind reading this... How many of you here were born after 1970?

Simple math would indicate if you were born in 1970 you were 15 in 1985 when Dave left odds are pretty good you never saw VH live. If born after 1975 I'd lay odds 99.9% of you were too young to have seen VH live and were only lucky enough to have any exposure unless you had older siblings or parents that kept rock a part of their lives.

Obviously one can formulate an opinion/preference of VH by listening to the albums and bootlegs and video. But there's nothing that can replace actually being there experiencing Van Halen directly from 1978 - 1985.

I don't want to invalidate anyone's opinion but if you come here day in and talk with such emotion and assumed expertise on the subject of something you never experieinced because it was before your time... does make an old timer like me question how the hell do you know what you you are talking about if you were cuttin teeth and watching Seasame Street while the Diamond One was rockin the world??

So I'm real curious how many of you are younger than 35?

I saw VH live with Dave seven times. (including US Festival '83)

With Spammy once. (that was quite enough for a comparison)

            Once with Gary. (again, enough)

Dave IS Van Halen, no matter what anyone thinks. Anything else is just a cheap, rip-off, pop band imitation.

I vote for the pack of rabid midgets (over Spammy that is)...

Yep, he's the ring-leader. Even if he didn't sing a word, the show'd be 1000 times more entertaining than anything with Spammy at the helm.

Remember, Dave only suggested the name, its not his, therefore it would never change no matter who sings. Which preferably in a perfect world would be Sam. Don't get me wrong, Dave is a great performer, and showman; but come on... When it comes to singing he don't come close to the Red Rocker. I grew up a Sammy Fan before I ever even knew who Van Halen was. I loved it, but it didn't matter. I insisted on listening to VH for the first time starting only with the 1st album and going through them in order. I noticed flaws in both eras. With Dave they were a balls to the wall party band. And with Sammy it was all about the music.

Let me point out that they had a lot more hits with Sammy.
So in my mind, I don't hate DLR, Im a VH Fan no-matter who sings (as long as its not Cherone) But I do have a special liking for Sammy. And its a great thing that they are doing.

                        Rock on, and Peace out.

All about the music? Pull your head out of your ass nimrod.

Born in '71, did actually get to see DLR-led VH in 1984, my first concert. Of course my perceptions at that age were far different than when I was older and went to other VH shows.

I hear ya Zahzoo. I always find it funny that those who were like 4 years old when Dave left make these claims about knowing what "real" VH was all about live. How the hell would you even know what it was like, you were still watching Barney. I was there at 13, and don't feel I really got the full enjoyment of the experience because I was so young.

For the record, it was by far the most memorable show I've ever been to. I've seen Ed, Mike, and Al play better since, but the energy at that show was unreal.

Shove a cattle prod up Sambo's ass right before the opening number,
                            *BOOM*....there's your rabid midget.

That is the most bullshit argument, that if you weren't around during the Roth era then you're not allowed to say how great it was.

                              Well guess what:

I HAVE THE ORIGINAL SIX ALBUMS AND BOOTLEGS. ALL I NEED ARE MY TWO EARS TO CLUE ME IN AS TO WHICH IS THE BETTER BAND.

Now go troll off to the Van Hagar Links all you Slapnuts fans, please.
