I wish Dave still recorded hard rock albums at a frequent pace. I wish he spoke of his career in terms of music and people...and not as much schtick in the interviews. I wish he and Ed got along better...or that he at least got the EAT 'EM AND SMILE band back together. And I hate to say this, not that I give this much of a shit...I wish he wasn't about to become a right-wing radio host.

I agree about not mentioning his band.

I have the Rockline 86 interview where Vai and Sheehan actually participate in the interview.

I also have the Bob and Tom 2002 acoustic set where he mentions his band once.

However, this depends on your definition of a "solo artist".

I love Roth....I hate the shallowness of him sometimes..and the becker thing kinda brings to light that he isn't the most selfless person....that's why I really don't care to meet the guy but he still rocks my world and I plan on seeing him live again soon!

I think if Dave put out a new album and there was a full-fledged tour with it, then things would be different. As long as he's just doing the summer one-offs with a revolving line-up, he's not going to talk about them like it's a "band."

The Becker thing honestly means shit to me. I doubt that they were close friends. Is it just because the guy is sick, or would everyone react the same if he never saw Matt Bissonnette again?

of course...his solo album...but there seems to be a bit of fact to when Dave stopped "including" the band in the visible piece of his act...to when his popularity diminished. I don't really know what the connection there is...

but there is some fact to it...
The connection is that around the time that the Yankee Rose band broke up, Pete Angleus - the other half of the Picasso Bros ("Fuhgeddabout it, Dave!) - and dave also stopped collaborating. Pete had to have a HUGE part in forming and creating the videos - even if he was just an ideal listening board for Dave (which he wasn't - he was much more).

Look at the change from the zany 10 minute videos (for a 3 minute song!) from CFTH and EEAS, to the straight ahead "Let's just show the band playing the song" from Skyscraper, to "UH...I'm just gonna walk around this here set" afterwards.

I still say that there is no excuse.
But they weren't in a band together - Dave was his employer. Big difference. And it was only for a very brief period, easily less than a year. I don't think they were "buddy-buddy" at all...I mean, Dave has said on plenty of occassions that he's a loner and doesn't really associate himself with his bands on a personal level.

Would it be a nice gesture? Absolutely. Is it really all that difficult? No. So why hasn't he? Beats me.

Ok, the Becker thing has been beaten to death now. LOL.

I would also like to point out that I agree with what Rikk said.

Sure, I'll listen to Dave if he is a radio host, but I'd rather listen to new music he puts out.

I don't like the fact that in dave's word it's all about re-inventing himself and bla bla bla, but it's like, the guy needs confidence: the setlist, he should definitly play way more solo stuff, i mean there are so many songs to choose from,

I came to the conclusion that maybe he doesn't beleive in these songs, and that's what stopped the guy from goin forward, goin beyond vh and the fuckin sisters....

I guess the becker thing is just different for everyone. But I think it unfort. speaks volumes.

I admire the fact that Dave is always learning and growing as a person. He would not be Diamond Dave if he didn't. He'd be Dave Roth, ex-singer of Van Halen.

I don't think Dave lacks any confidence. He's giving the people what he thinks they want. He's not stupid. His solo career basically ended in the 80's as far as most are concerned or aware. He knows only the die-hards have heard some of it. He playing more of the old, because that's what he is most well-known for.

I think at this point he needs to embrace his hardcore fan base. Even playing almost ALL CVH tunes at his shows, he's still only playing clubs...........time to become an "artist" again, not just an oldies act.
