    So what do I think?

I think this is a bad idea.

Dave going into radio is not a bad idea but trying to follow up a legend is. This is a no win situation for Dave and he will likely go down in flames...hard.

To Stern fans who can't afford Sirius, Dave will become Sammy Hagar. Isn't it ironic...

They will laugh at his feeble attempt to be funny (because they won't get Dave like his fans do), they will laugh at his hair and they will laugh at the washed up rockstar who walked away from the biggest band in the world only to end up a D list celebrity for the last 20 years.

There will be no reunion with VH, there is no EEAS band reunion and there is no rise from the ashes to become the phoenix that replaces Howard. This is it...enjoy Dave's six months (or less) of radio experimentation. Infinity will end up hiring a bigger name once they realize a David Lee Roth radio show can't generate even a tenth of the ad revenue Stern did.

I wish Dave jumped into the radio kids pool first and worked his way up to this. The Infinity adult swim is no place for a novice to be.

Mezro...save whatever guarantee money Infinity gives you Dave...this is your last big check...
Got me a date with a shaved Asian. I know, I know; I think it's fucked!

Well, if we are gonna start comparing Diamond David Lee Roth to Sammy Hagar, I only want to point out that even though to true Classic Van Halen fans, Van Hagar never even came close...there was a whole new market that bought into the music that Van Hagar put out... and Van Hagar, including Sammy Hagar, made a lot of money off of what they did together, and had a fair measure of success.

And in that respect, I wish David as much luck in replacing Stern as Sammy had.

If David goes on the show and thinks he is gonna save the day by rattling off 20 year old Rothisms... yeah... he won't last. But I am surprised at the number of people who think thats all he can do.

I personally believe there is a whole nother side to Dave that most of the world has never seen... and I hope he is ready to let his light shine. Hells bells and cockle shells...maybe at 50 years old the guy is ready to get in touch with his more serious side.

And on that note, and in response to Nick's comment in the other thread about this decreasing the chance for a reuinion, I disagree... but then as long as they are all alive, I will believe there is a chance for a reunion...but, I do admit that time is slipping away... BUT... Dave sitting on his ass doing nothing... or touring with his own band playing Van Halen's music... is not doing anything to promote a reunion either.

And as for the whole money thing anyway... I really don't believe Dave is destitute. I don't think this is something he is doing for the money. I think its something else he is doing to chalk it up to experience.

Roth on David... and best of luck to you.

Dude he spun records here in LA, it wasn't a talk show. That's all he did all week, play music like a regular DJ.

It doesn't really matter, it ain't gonna be played on the West Coast (ironic) so I won't get to hear it anyway.

And Dave is gonna get fucked with for a long time, because like Mezro said...whether you like Stern or not, he's a legend in that time slot on that station. Shit when they had that Dave impersonator on and everyone thought Howard was gone, the calls reamed the shit out of him, they had no idea it was just a hoax.

This thing is just gonna be a giant fucking failure. The general public doesn't see Dave the same way this site does, it's just reality guys. Most people who called in that one day didn't even know who David Lee Roth was.

Look at all that negativity from the guy that went to a dozen Van Hagar shows...

Roth did a good hour or two of talking each day on the Boston show you should check it out.

Not sure if this will work or not but it might...

No, they were even commenting on Howard Stern about the fact that DLR isn't doing this for the money, and that he has been smart about investing his money and still has plenty.

Seriously, who is a bigger name that you can think of than David Lee Roth?? Aside from Stern there really isn't any other person I can think of like him that could draw much attention. A Lamont and Tonelli act sure wouldn't be able to fill the slot, and they've got their gig anyway. Is there another nationally known personality that you can think of to fill this spot better? It sure ain't Adam Carolla that's for sure.

Every morning on the way to work I listen to Howard....and that was great! NOW every morning I get to hear the Diamond one....fuckin' A !
I'm happy for him. As much as i want Dave to put out some more music this is his thing in life...for now. I heard Dave DJ on 92.3 K Rock out here in Long Island NY a couple years ago and he was amazing!! Everyone was impressed with him...even STERN. The best to you Dave...It just goes to show how much talent this man really has.

                  You missed my point completely.

Mezro...I never said Dave was destitute but how much to you think he gets paid when playing to 2,000 (or fewer) fans?...he will make some good coin from Infinity...hope he saves it...

When it comes to comedy, Adam Carolla is a bigger name than David Lee Roth.

Bigger names that could fill an AM drive slot:

                    Chris Rock

                    Dave Chapelle

                    Craig Kilborn

                    Jon Stewart

                    Bam Margera

                    Johnny Knoxville

                    Henry Rollins

                    Trey Parker and Matt Stone

Mezro...any of these guys are a bigger name in 2005 than David Lee Roth...this isn't the 80's anymore...

O.K. maybe I should have rephrased that. Anyone who is a bigger name that doesn't already have a better gig going on right now.

Mezro...any of these guys could do an AM drive show if motivated ($$$$) to do so...Kilborn is the only one not working at the moment...he would do a more than decent job...

If you think Henry Rollins is a bigger name than DLR......you need a reality check.

Henry Rollins may be cool, but the average person has NO IDEA who he is.

Pretty much everyone alive knows who Dave is.

And I don't agree these other characters are a bigger name. Dave's career peaked long ago, but his name, voice, swagger and personality remain wolrd famous.

Think back, for example, to the TV commercials a couple years ago (was it lexmark printer?) with the photo of Dave on stage with the character in the commercial. or the many many references to DLR that pop up everywhere (The Nascar magazine), DLR on the Sopranos.......it goes on an on.

Dave is perfect for the radio gig, and he will blow everyone else away, Howard included. Maybe Dave will have a truly intelligent audience, but he wil have an audience.

After he did the radio gig in Boston, the station director or whatever he was, said that was the highest rating they ever had. Everyone called in to Diamond Dave.

Howard Stren himself once said when Dave was on he NEVER saw the switchboard light up with callers like he did that day with Dave.

Long live DLR and I can't wait for the radio.

See, now Kilborn is one of the names on that list I would have to disagree is bigger than Roth. What's he done, other than that really late late show? I think he's a virtual unknown, and not that interesting.

and to Baby's on Fire, I think Rollins has a better gig going on with his music. Not that I like it, but it must be more lucrative for him than radio would be.
