Van Halen was the real deal. Van Hagar a bland cliche whose initial sucess had nothing to do with music. It was the momentum of 1984 that guaranteed big sales on anything they put out next with the name VH on it.
sales steadily declined with each release.
Van Hagar is not legit. No heart. No challenge. Nothing groundbreaking. There direction is not decided by instinct. But by hired suits. Just neatly packaged little tunes.....

THAT'S FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

They created something brilliant, artisitic, and entirely they're own. And they acheived success on their own terms.
When they got Hagar it was not the music that sold. Anything would've sold at that time. (A chart would reveal a steady decline with each release.) They were riding on the momentum that they created after "1984".
After "1984", instead of creating or expanding on what made them unique, the opted to apply their sound to very formulatic, typical, cliche songs.
Any attempts to rekindle their old sound sounded contrived and forced and lacked the live energy of the original 6 albums. Plus, hagar can't write anything but cliche rhymes (contrived again). (poundcake LOL)
It's not only a Dave thing. They're not a band. They're a corporation. I hear it. It's high-gloss but plastic. Cut into little edible chunks. Lot's of sugar but very little protein.

Pete you are so right on the nail with this. WB suits. Suits just wanted to make more money. Reminds me of that movie with Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia Black Rain. They keep on saying "Its the suits man the Suits".
Money destroyed Van Halen. Dave worked for so many years to give VH attitude and Sam And Ed ruined it in 9 months. 1984-5150

Amen. Halle-fuckin'loooola!
Marchin2Mars, LSD and all these other twats should just hit the bricks.
Am getting bored reading these " i love both eras of Van Halen so i get the best of both worlds i used to like Dave but now he sucks why do you guys make fun of Sammy it's not his fault Dave's not in the band how dare you wish a Van Hagar fan dead" girlish drivel.
Bout the only thing reinforced by the Hagarite Invasion on this website is Sam Halen fans are a bunch of skirts.
Can't you flaming Waboritas at least come up with some new Roth insults and take a stand rather than some half-assed attempt to placate anyone by fence sitting?
Or do you all just lack creativity and cajones (shades of Hagar perhaps)?
I just think all these Van Hagar fans are coming to grips with the fact that they've been following this fat loser for years. They really prefer Dave , but they're taking out their anger for all the wasted years and dollars they spent on Spam and an uninspired EVH. Myself, I can't wait for this tour to begin so we can hear about what a train wreck it is.
