When they got Hagar it was not the music that sold. Anything would've sold at that time. (A chart would reveal a steady decline with each release.) They were riding on the momentum that they created after "1984".
After "1984", instead of creating or expanding on what made them unique, the opted to apply their sound to very formulatic, typical, cliche songs.
Any attempts to rekindle their old sound sounded contrived and forced and lacked the live energy of the original 6 albums. Plus, hagar can't write anything but cliche rhymes (contrived again). (poundcake LOL)
It's not only a Dave thing. They're not a band. They're a corporation. I hear it. It's high-gloss but plastic. Cut into little edible chunks. Lot's of sugar but very little protein.

I want a Van Hagar fan to tell me how the band progressed doing "When It's Love," "Love Walks In," and then CONTINUING that shit into the '90s with "Not Enough." Please tell me with a straight face that that was progression and they weren't lazy.
