If Eddie just wants to fade away, that's totally cool with me. I mean, there are friends I used to have who I wouldn't even spit on now. So I can understand. But come on, you would think he could update his site, let the fans know wtf. We have been teased too many times. Remember, we are the ones that made him rich. Just update the site saying "I'm done. Thanks 4 everything."
Real reason behind 2004 tour

I was working for a theater and one of the founders died. after a year there was some "memorial" day for him and one of the other actors who founded the theater with him was invited.
they split 35 (!!!) years before. after the ceremony we all sat together and the old actor told us "youngsters", that he was thinking about "sending some greetings" to the man in heaven, but then looked around and deceided "fuck no way"...
those animosities can go really deep, I guess...Roth Army Icon

You know..I've thought a lot about the "You owe us" mentality since I joined the Links way back when...and have come to this conclusion...
it's horseshit...
no offense...
and I haven't always felt that way...
but perhaps a little more age has softened me a bit on that subject...
Here's the deal...
I've spent hundreds of dollars on VH...or more...
and here's the thing...If I took up all the hours I've spend in my life listening to Van Halen...Classic Van Halen that is...
and relate it to what I would say that listening is worth depending on when and why...
I'd owe VH a shitload of a lot more money...
Of course...if you add in all the fucking angst of the past 10 years...
well...
maybe I should be pissed about it again..."Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."Comment

Maybe my post came off wrong. As for Eddie owing us, I don't believe that. My money has been well spent, and some of my best memories VH was playing in the background. If I felt he owed us, I would say you owe us a tour, an album, an explanation. I don't even need an explanation. It's just the big unknown that is so frustrating to me.
A simple "Over & out" would suffice. But even in recent interviews he talks about all the great stuff that he's sitting on and won't release. To me, that's just a tease.“Great losses often bring only a numb shock. To truly plunge a victim into misery, you must overwhelm him with many small sufferings.”Comment

it's not about owing something but for me it's some kind of "responsibility"...if people make you rich and famous and allow you to live a good life and you know how much they care for the legend you built, it's only fair to let them know what's going on...
but on the other hand, don't we know? it's simple...alexis said, that dave will never sing in VH again in his famous "dave needs meds"-interview, sam said "I don't get along with ed anymore", bass player confirmed it...and ed...well ed is working on his death...so what...
it's not that we don't KNOW...we just refuse to ACCEPT...Last edited by DavidLeeNatra; 03-29-2006, 07:08 AM.Roth Army Icon

If the money is the primary motivation, Ed and Co stand to make more with Dave fronting the group EVEN if the profits are split four equal ways than if they go with any other singer and Ed and Al take the lion's share of the percentage.
Can see where Pojo is coming from in terms of why Ed may well think he and Al should make more than everyone else...I don't pretend to know anything about Ed and his business or his personal life...I do agree that it's the distribution of the proceeds that has held everything up and continually scuttles the reunion from happening.
I'm not that dumb to think that money isn't a primary motivation for people wanting to become rock stars/professional musicians/entertainers (Ed claims he's a musician whereas dave is an entertainer, but methinks he doth protest too much)...but after you've made enough (is enough ever enough?), or at least many millions, wouldn't you think money would be less of a motivating factor?
As far as 2004 being Ed's last stand...fuck, man, that'd be a punk-ass way to go out.
Depressing.
Ed doesn't owe me anything as a fan and someone who, along with millions, helped put him in his private studio and made him rich, but it'd be cool if he did put it back together with Dave for a last hurrah.
Either way, really matters not. EVH, Roth and the rest gave me 6 classic albums of killer music, and nothing that's been said or done (or not done) since they split has taken away from that.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment
