That's a bold statement. On Leno, it was Dave's first major performance on highly rated cable since, wha? The Boston Pops? (unless Im forgetting something?) He was nervous and that is expected. He still did ok for himself though.

Local radio trashed the new Strummin' cd...Basicaly telling everyone that "you can buy this if you want, but Id rather my classic rock". And then she laughed.
"FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKIN' BITCH! WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ANYWAYS? TALK TO ME LIKE THAT? FUCK YOU. DRAG QUEEN LOOKIN' WHORE- YOU AINT SHIT. YOUR THE FRECKLE TO THE LEFT OF MY BROWN EYE. NOW GO MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL...OH, PUT DAD ON THE PHONE"

I agree Dave shouldn't by singing on the higher register unless it's full-blown Van Halen. The tone of his high voice is not nearly as cool as the tone of his badass raspy low voice.

I love the originals so much that some of these versions are real hard to listen to. With the exception of Jump and I'll Wait because I never liked those much to begin with.

I think Jamies Cryin sounds OK, but I like the original so much more. Its not like its been improved or anything, IMO, so part of me says ...whats the point?

Well, the point is that now some folks who never heard Roths lyrics will hear them. Maybe they never liked rock or whatever. They can listen to these songs and hopefully enjoy them this way.

As for me, I got the CD..listened to it once and will probably file it away with all of my other VH tribute CDs that I have listened to once.

I am enjoying watching Dave on TV. Thats the best part for me. I think his voice sounds very good. And he looks great.

            And happy.

really good interview, I did like the performance on leno better but only because his voice was lower and more w/ the song. On ferguson it was like he was trying to sing like he did on the original jump.

Theory #1 If you listen the vocal structure of early Van Halen tunes
its High Octane long sounds at a very shocking forward thrust.

They cannot be sung anyother way .Then you watch Dave take those tunes and roll them into blue grass in the only way they can.

That's what you get ,what it was, what it is, it was what he did with it.

I'll bet anyone five bucks when thier band does a van halen tune it
sounds exactly like VH is doing it No-One can change the dynamic
timeing structure of the dave style vocalization and make it work.

Dave can cause that's what he does.

It was absolutely the best it could be for what it was. Exactly what Dave wanted it to be, why can't anyone get this..?

Enjoy or don't enjoy he will sing it again the way he has in the past
and change it up for the future cause that's wehat he does.

I love putting words in roths mouth .bla bla bla .

Saw the Leno bit and liked it.
Jump was the biggest mainstream hit VH had, makes sense that he`s busting it out for tv.
Dave`s The Fucking Man and if he wants to do a fucking calypso version of Loss of Control on the summer tour, I ain't complaining.

Dave's still got charisma. He doesn't look the same or sing as good but that's what age does to you (especially when you've walked right into the wind as he has). But I think Dave does great with what he has. I think he's very underated as a singer and songwriter. The guy's still going to keep people interested no matter what. That's what charisma does. I think he's a very technical singer but has lost a step or two. Doesn't matter though. He's still good. By the way, listen to Robert Plant now. He can't sing anywhere near the way he used to.

Are you kidding? That banjo player did that solo with more energy than Eddie Van Halen has on any tour since 1984.

On the Ferguson performance, the 2nd chorus where Dave sings "Can't you see what I meeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaan", he changes it up and adds some good flavor to it. Usually he holds the note, scream, whatever you want to call it. But this was the first time I have heard him do something like this. Very cool indeed.

Okay, I thought the interview was stellar. Daves back in the spotlight, and he's taking full advantage of it. He had the audience cheering, clapping, laughing, everything short of throwing roses, just like he always has.

The performance was great too. Sure, his voice aged, but that only makes the song sound somewhat different, not crappy. I hope this album sells extremely well, it deserves to.
