The fact of the matter...is on the large scale of things...I sure as fuck wouldn't ever buy a hillbilly album...
I did like the performances the other night...
no way in hell will I say Roth was anywhere near as good as he was in his prime years in the 70's and 80's...
and I'd never go see the hillbilly hoedown playing behind him without Roth fronting them...
It's not a rip on them in the least...they are damn good...but it's not my cup of tea...
Now...Roth still put on a good show...and I enjoyed it...more the second...and I would concur with Switch...more than likely because Roth had an opportunity to talk beforehand...
I wouldn't call it a reinvention at all as some of you have...but will call it Roth just doing something to see what the fuck it's all about...
I got no problem with that...
and if you do...DON'T FUCKING PAY ATTENTION TO IT...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."
Well, I happened to really like both performances. He seemed a lot more comfortable on Ferguson than he did on Leno. I don't particularly care for bluegrass, however and in this case I really enjoyed "Jump" inparticular. My reason being is that I don't really care for "Jump" period. So, I do get a kick out of the new version. I think the arrangement smokes and I think Dave's voice is mint. I also think he really seems happy, comfortable and settled down nowadays. In any case, I'm enjoying the heck out of all the recent Roth exposure.
Originally posted by JuniorsGrades If you saw Dave on Leno and Ferguson did you really like the performance? Seriously? Did you really like it? I couldn't stand it. I'm a huge Roth fan, but I just can't stand hearing the classics butchered. Might as well do VH unplugged if your going to put up with bluegrass. And his voice. I just don't get what happend to it. The scream is gone. His "new" scream or whatever it is sounds aweful. He's trying to hit notes he can't hit. I think if he sang it like the album it would sound good, but he's trying to do too much with his voice. I loved how he would change the melododies here and there back in the day, but he just can't cut it anymore. I say stick with the way it was done on the albums...
Just my 2 cents...
Anybody going to the Cleveland show on August 20th.....
Dave once thought he could sing with VH..now he thinks he is an Injun......Ohohohohohohohooho
Honestly, I would rather see Dave performing with Van Halen...duhh
BUT, it's good to see Dave on major late night TV again even if he is playing the cuntry bumpkin here.
on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on
And what's the conclusion some people dig, some don't
Originally posted by sadaist On the Ferguson performance, the 2nd chorus where Dave sings "Can't you see what I meeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaan", he changes it up and adds some good flavor to it. Usually he holds the note, scream, whatever you want to call it. But this was the first time I have heard him do something like this. Very cool indeed.
Good point.
Dave would've never done that in the 80s.
He would've just screamed over it.
I liked the performances and dug the stripped down, bluesgrass versions.
I'll always prefer the originals, but people should expect the unexpected with Dave.
He's never been the straight ahead, regular hard rock singer.
When he did Crazy from the Heat, or even back to Dancin' in the Streets, Dave was always doin' something a little different than your regular hard rock music.

That, and he's probably pissed off because there's no bluegrass Van Cheese songs on the new album...
BROWN-SOUND ******S, tenhut.
Come and listen to my story bout a dude named ED, etc. etc.
Where is the CRUDE? ******s, ******s, ******s. You aren't sending that damn Jew your Beverly Hills tweak, and Weazer took off, already.
If you want to keep a hairy Jew rockabilly, you have to send in the Weazer-tweak so his speed-demented brain can make a break on Weird Al, but no luck, you guys didn't get Weazer, so giggle, now.
