Here's the thing on that. I got my first real computer back in May of 1998. I could have SWORN I googled Dave then, and went to Slawterhouse which had a link to the ARMY. I wanna say it was 1999. I know I am not high when I say it.

I started a thread called, "Girls Night Out" that was real popular with the girls that started to wander in. Sweet Irony came in, Alley Kat, Chelle, Melein, Rose, Elitest, and Faith...and if you remember even the gents would pop in from time to time. VH Freak, Cathedral, Panamark, and Bug would come in and mess around.

I do remember that, havent thought about that thread in years....Nice to see you are still around Susie.....I sometimes wonder what ever happened to Melein and Elitest, I still have Elitest's email address (She was the one from England right? Or am I thinking of someone else?)

I used to come to The Army because it was the best DLR site of all of them and this was the best place to watch those old Dave and VH videos. YouTube wasn't available in the day. I often think, man. How did we get along before the internet? It was see what was in the magazine rack or bookstore. Go to the library and dig through the damn card catalog and then try and find it on huge shelves of books. I don't miss it a bit.

I discovered DDLR.com before finding the army.

If I recall correctly, it was during the summer of '02, right around when DLR was touring with SH.

I started poking around, looking for DLR/VH info, found classicvanhalen, the Links, and eventually the DDLR forums.

Prior to that, I wasn't a computer dude at all in the 90s, didn't even have an email address until 2000 or so. Used to lug a borrowed Apple setup to school every time I had to pull an all-nighter and type up a major assignment.

So, getting a decent laptop in '02, I signed up over at Von's and had a blast both there and here (though mostly there ). Lots of laughs and a lot of memories now, too.

On a related note, it has struck me how my own personal VH experience, in a long-term, life-long perspective, is now so intertwined with my thoughts, experiences, and memories related to the VH message boards, particularly DDLR and here, that there's almost no separating the two: the band, and the online life related to it.

There's really no other band or fan community with which I've had a similarly intense online life, none.

Before the message board, there was the guest book. Plus I remember there being a brief description of each weapon in the Roth Army Arsenal. Plus there was a part that show the state/country where each member was from.
