To tell ya the truth, if Wolfgang Van Halen was actually playing his bass on a couple songs or all of them is pretty much a non-factor for me. Seriously, if you went to the show by paying your hard earned dime and enjoyed the experience, who is to say otherwise? Dave Roth and Edward Van Halen were finally reunited upon a stage. Some people have been waiting 20 odd years for this. Hooray.

OK. Yet for me, this entire enterprise was an approximation of Van Halen, from the get-go. And as such, I chose to opt out. I'll admit there is a certain cynicism in that decision, but it has been born out by what has taken place at the behest of the "band's" leader. To be a fan of VH these days means that you will purchase expensive products, like signature guitars, various pedals and even tennis shoes, all stating the addendum "This is what I use". The total irony in that advertising staple is the fellow has not used any of these devices to create new music since sometime over a decade ago. (Sorry Mr. Van Halen, three crummy Hagar rejects on a second "Best Of" record within less than a decade and a couple wank-jobs for a truly awful porn flick do not constitute artistry let alone quality, ya fuckin' dork.)

So all in all, what does it matter if Wolfie played or not? At this point, Van Halen honesty borders upon masochism for those that still believe in this band. At least that is how I see it these days.

Nothing to do with being a Michael Anthony lover...I'm a CVH lover. VH without Mikey is not CVH. Wolfie is not CVH. Dave is the only thing that saved that entire tour.

I saw two shows on the tour; I never really saw anything that made me believe without a shadow of a doubt that Wolfie's shit was fishy, but you gotta admit, there was an awful lot of buzz about whether or not he was really playing. I got nothing against the kid, and I went to see Dave and Ed together, period, so in reality the bass player didnt mean shit to me.

Again, you gotta admit, a jack daniels swiggin psycho hammering open e is a lot more interesting than a kid that should be playing weddings. If I told you I wouldnt prefer the entire original lineup as opposed to what we got handed, I'd be lying. Just being honest.

It's too much like trying to find the silver lining these days. While it was neat to see Roth and Ed onstage together, too many times it was a case of Dave acquitting himself well and Ed being incapable...like, even the times that found everything clicking together well and the band started cooking, it was still just an approximation of the past...I found myself thinking "I've been wanting to see Dave and Ed playing together again for so long, but this is a bit underwhelming."

No offence to any virtuoso bassists that may
be reading, but basic bass playing is not complicated.

I also think that any piped in backing vocals were
sung over, making the fact it was piped, suck a
tiny bit less, or what about the argument they
used a harmonizer and Ed and Wolf did actually
sing with the harmonizer or pitch shifter auto
          correcting ???
          100% correct!!

Saw the Minneapolis show and yes I could tell during a few songs that the vocals were "piped" in.

Though they were mostly pre-recorded vocals but not necessarily the original Mike tracks.

I don't know. I don't hang out in the bathroom with Wolfie and I really don't want to go there.

Mike was more than thumping the big E. He used to tear it up in the old days and there is some tasty bass work on the VH albums. I always liked the bass on Dirty Movies.

I hate to dig this shit back up...but I gotta ask...if the kid was really playing, why no bass solo? I mean, that would have sealed him in solid, right? Certainly would have shut everyone up...right?
                                Ahh fuck it.
