Understandable, but there's a point where it just becomes too much. You're not painting the Sistine fuckin' Chapel. This album will not cure fuckin' polio.

If there are mistakes, leave 'em in there. It won't stop chicks from shaking their asses, and afterall, that's the most important thing....everything else is bullshit.

That "One Foot Out The Door" mentality is what made this band work.

Axl Rose spent 20 years of his miserable life making me a nice coaster for my drink.

Speaking of Wah, did you ever here 19 year old Ed tear it up with the wah on Chevrolet from the Gazarri's '74 recording? I've been playing since '83 and I can't come close to the command he exuded way the hell back when. Frightening. Definitely don't care for the sustainer, but I'll take some tasty wah.

I'm still calling bullshit on the new album.

This is shaping up to be the most epic troll in t3h w0r1d. It will surpass the previous most epic trolling - the '96 - by leaps & bounds. And ye're all falling for it again.

Eddie V. sez "The new album's out &... SURPRISE! We have a NEW singer."

                Cheers! :bottle:

I would guess that Dave learned his lesson in the mid 90's that vocal cords are like any other muscle. If you don't keep them in shape, you lose them. And the one weakness in the 2 Van HALEN songs from 1996, was that Dave was not singing at full strength. He was much better on his DLR Band album two years later - aside from a few tracks where he tried to push his range beyond where it was when he was 20, let alone in his 40's. And the vocals were damn near flawless on that Diamond Dave album he put out in 2003, even if they were wasted on a bunch of covers.

And of course, if you saw the last tour, you know he can still bring it live. Yeah, the screams are gone, but the man is 56, for fucks sake. Age, tobacco, and alcohol take their toll on any voice. Compared to Keith Richards or Ron Wood, I'd say Dave's voice has held up remarkably well.

Brian Johnson did a fantastic job on Black Ice because the producer knew his voice has been gone for 10+ years. he told him we are going to work as long as yor voice holds up... 1-2-3-10 hours... when it sounds strained we're done. His ego was small enough to handle that and i think Dave's ego is more than down to earth to handle the same advice if it were explained to him that way. We all know Dave's concert voice doesn't matter he's the show. So let's get the record right and have the VH show that we're are used to and expect.

Cool. I never thought of doing it for that reason. but it's a great idea since these guys get paid by views & hits. At least a lot of them do. So from here on I'll post links only with maybe a small nugget from an original article.

Yea. Cooked my brain for awhile on that approach (went to GIT Producer School....but dropped out and got another degree or 5 instead). I think you are right. I would allow Dave to hit what he needs to hit during recording, and I do not believe any of it would be fake. The "Whoos" are too hard to attenuate after a certain point and are better left as live....survival "Whos": Leave them off the album. Hell, if Dave only has 3 screams a day in him, record those and say bye bye, come back next weekend. My ex was a speech pathologist. We talked about the screams. Ford has it only half-right there (unless he explains more), as your vocal cords are different as they have no pain nerve alarms. That is why your Doctor says; Stop Talking when you have laryngitis as you cannot feel the pain, you are walking on a broken ankle and pretending you are playing Ice Hockey.

If you understand Glenn Ballard's approach to Dave's voice in '96 then you will get what I am saying. Punctuation is key to Dave's approach, but here we are...26 summers later. You mine gold with shoring up the tunnels.

So smoking, yea would be nice if Dave stopped. But, addictions are hard. Six months now for me off smoking. Hope Dave tries it.
