Check this out guys and gals!

    Story:

Updated] We end what has turned out to be a heavy Van Halen news week with this big news for fans, some new rarities have gone online! Earlier this year, we told you that Chris Gossett had posted his massive Van Halen rarities and live collection online, which has now grown to 101 song videos including a complete concert from 1978.
Three of new editions are indeed rare including one previously unreleased, unheard original song. Here is what Chris had to say about these additions along with links to check them out.

I have recently added another rare song - a nearly unheard, unreleased recording of Van Halen performing Slade's "Goodbye To Jane" in a long, complete version. Previously I released the only YouTube video of it as part of a medley. Check it out here

"Voodoo Queen" LIVE, from 1977. As far as I know it's unable to be found. I got it five years ago. Its enhanced audio made to sound twice as good as the original song file. Listen here

Also, here is another demo that never had the live version on the internet - Babe Don't Leave Me Alone (live) again, with enhanced audio. Listen here

What was 75 song videos is now 101 song videos total! Also I added an entire 1978 Tokyo Van Halen show from number 91-100 here.

That's a part of it. You are essentially boosting up the good parts of the song so everything sounds sonically acceptable. Think of it as making a pot of soup. You start by cooking down the vegetables in butter or oil, add seasoning and stock, then the meat. You keep simmering it, adding a bit more seasoning until the whole thing is edible. The thing is, you have to use quality ingredients or the process is a complete waste of time. In cooking, you can not get rid of the taste of a crappy ingredient completely, but you can sort of disguise it by adding more seasoning. When mixing a tune, pretty much the same applies: you can hide or eliminate a flubbed note or vocal by burying it or removing it altogether.

Then comes the presentation. Shortly before you serve the soup, you put it in a nice looking bowl and add some crackers and/or a topping to make it palatable to the eye. In music, this is known as mastering, where you make things palatable to the ear. Then you chuck it out on the table and hope people enjoy the fruits of your labor without returning it and demanding a refund or worse yet, vowing never to dine/listen to your music ever again.

Which one? The only remotely obscure one is the "Goodbye To Jane" cover, which has been around in one form or another on boots for years. That's what bugs me about this guy in the first place: He takes bootlegs recorded by other people, adds a bit of echo to them and passes them off as his own work. This isn't all that different from the nitwit (no longer posting here) that used to copy a handful of Youtube videos filmed by other folks attending shows, download them onto DVDs and pretend that he'd "created" it.

I never heard of the guy. Swimming in the Ocean. I don't think I have that.

At any rate it was new to me. That being said I don't really look for that stuff anymore. Just happened across it trying to find some new news.

                  Title for the album, perhaps?

                  Van Halen: Soup

Original ingredients minus the fat (Mike) now with natural fats (Wolf).

Well, he's hardly going to say it blows is he?

I'll do my damndest to prevent my expectations from being raised - that way if the end product is good it'll be a nice surprise, and if it's crap I won't be devastated.

Not a rumour. Yes, looks like the album is currently being mixed.

Well, I think there is potential for these new songs to be much better than what they did in 1996.

Because that whole debacle was a ploy to sell more albums -- Ed and Al had no intention of retaining Dave as we know. So, the premise behind those 2 songs were not done under the right circumstances -- not to mention Dave's vocals not being up to par and getting outside writers to get Roth to sing their lyrical shit.
