Album Sales predictions-What do you think?

Ironic that Universal wouldn't release the album on vinyl in the UK. I thought they were big supporters of that whole "record store day" thing. Or at least they were when they issued the Rolling Stones "Plundered My Soul" as a vinyl 45" in advance of the Exile remaster.

I'll be getting the deluxe edition somewhere on release day. I ordered the vinyl and will be getting the deluxe mp3 included. I wonder if that counts as 2 with the vinyl/mp3?
I'd also be surprised if there isn't a Record Store Day 45 or 10" released as well. Still a few months away and if sales go well, I'm sure they'll do it.

Oh and I figure at least platinum, maybe 2.

So much has changed in the music industry since Van Halen's heyday so it's difficult to predict what ADKOT will sell. From what I've gathered, our demographic (assuming most here are 35-50 years old) is reluctant to buy new CDs. And the casual Van Halen/hard rock fan will be content to listen to Tattoo on the radio, perhaps download it, play their old CDs in the car and attend the tour in the hope of hearing some familiar tunes from their youth - rather than buy the album - no matter how good it is. I think it will sell 1-2m in its first year and if it's as good as we hope it is, in time it could reach 3m.

I can understand downloading for free if it's some concert bootleg, out-of-stock albums or videos no longer issued which are not availabel in the USA, or unreleased material that has been hidden for decades. But I think hard rock/metal fans are a more dedicated and will buy an official newly released album from their favorite band. Unlike rap or pop fans who probably do the more illegal downloading than any other genre.

I think that there is so much pub about this album that it cant help but be a huge seller. CSI, front page USA TODAY article 1-19, posters all over big cities (all over downtown Boston by the garden), #1 on all the rock radio playlists (Providence and Boston).. Late night mentions on the talk shows.. Inevitable 3mill....

Here's the thing, Van Halen's new album came out yesterday, and Billboard estimated 180 to 200,000 sells on the first week. They also say this bitch Adele's new album comin' up this week may be something against Mighty Van Halen...
