Totally agree with this... I've been digging The Trouble With Never..."How many times have you done something for the first time" genius.

      Funny thing about "Outta Space"....

      Dave sounds not so good.

      BUT......

I find myself singing it more than anything else.

      Jus' sayin........

I used to have Let's get Rockin as my ring tone. It's so cool to see my son, who knows all the CVH to OWN the new album as HIS OWN...grooving on it and TURNING IT UP in the car. he would brag to his friends that his dad has unreleased Van Halen on his phone...now he grooves to all of it.

        Van Halen my friends...

          Brethren and Sistren,

I actually like his voice on Outta Space. Reminiscent of I'm The One and On Fire. Granted, he's no SPRING CHICKEN™©® anymore, but he does an ADMIRABLE™©® job. Sure, if he could bring it like he did in 1978 or 1984, that'd be great. But it also adds a bit of CHARACTER™©® and shows DLR™©® is really working his ass off on this album, both in terms of WRITING™©® and SINGING™©®.

I guess we could all take up a COLLECTION™©® and have the doctor who fixed ADELE'S™©® vox do the same for DIAMOND™©®.... then he could SQUEAL™©® like a 22yo fat chick with an accent.

Agree. Outta Space and She's The Woman (and to some degree Beats Workin') Dave seems to be reaching on these tracks, but they still kill because the music is mindblowing and the lyrics are genius. Simply age and the mileage on Dave's vocal chords - that he was able to pull off what he did on ADKOT at his age is pretty amazing.

This album has Dave's best lyrics in a long time on it.

                Exactamundo !

The metaphorical way I see it is like this... do you look at a work of art as a whole and dig it, or do you critique each individual brush stroke and decide you don't like the piece because the artist used a shade of green somewhere that you don't like ?

If you can follow me down this path, ADKOT is like the freakin' Mona Lisa in my little analogy here, and art scholars are still studying and discovering new dimensions of that work !

Anyone who doesn't appreciate what they hear is akin to a neophyte saying they don't like the Mona Lisa because she's fat (btw, if you really don't like or understand fine art such as the Mona Lisa, it's probably better to keep your mouth shut, quiety exit the museum and head over to Chuck E. Cheeze where you can relax in a familiar and comforting environment).

So you see... Spam fans love paint by the number water colors and big retarded looking rodents.

ADKOT got 3.5 stars in the new Rolling Stone with McCartney on the cover. It's actually a great 3/4 page review that says all the right things. They're even mentioned on the cover. Not a big fan of the mag, but considering their slant towards S. H. these passed couple of years, this review is yet another victory. Without even mentioning that guy, the review alludes to those years being forgettable to say the least. The inside page, oddly enough, says "Finish What Ya Started" under a picture from the LA show.

I got the CD on release day but I had not found the time to listen to it properly (loud and all the way from tracks 1 - 13)... until today. I drove from Austin to San Antone and back and jammed that mofo! Wow!!! It fuckin' rocks. Roth's lyrical genius shines through each tune. Eddie sounds angry... Fair Warning angry! Al and Wolf are tight as hell.

VAN HALEN IS BACK WITH A VENGANCE!

                        Nuthin' but YEAH!!!

I made my buddies in NC listen to ADKOT during our cigar + beer night last night. It came away with overwhelming approval by the time "Blood and Fire" was through. Even from the friend of mine who has never shown any interest in Van Halen despite my many attempts.

He is straining a bit on that track, but it's good to hear him making the effort...

The more I listen to the album, the more I'm wondering if Roth did all the vocals, background included; I can't discern a single vocal track that doesn't sound like him.

Yeah but he is also "straining" a bit on the original demo version too. I think its just the range of the song and how it needs to be sang. I don't see it as straining. IMO.

I have been making the rounds and made all my metal head trash friends listen to it that wrote them off because of the Pop Sambo era and they all really like it a lot. (I feel like a VH promo salesman sometimes, Ha!) I also had the entire cd played over the PA last friday at my gig when doors opened. 1,100 people were rocking out to it.
