I love the atomic punks, and I really don't mind seeing someone imitate Roth... what's wrong with carrying on the spirit of classic Van Halen?
Does this make you cringe?

a tribute without being a tribute band. Just pretend its your kids playing and it kind of makes you proud.

Before 2007 I saw the Atomic Punks maybe 4 times. had a great time every one of em. I think my first show was 1997 or 98 at a beach bar in San Diego. Ralph was so DLR it was scary. If you were drunk and kinda far from the stage, I swear you felt like you just used a time machine to 1981. It was very cool.
2007 and beyond I have no need for the Atomic Punks. I think Ralph made the right choice leaving them behind.
But hey, if people can go to a bar with friends, drink up, and rock out to live Van Halen music I say FUCKING A! Nothing wrong with that. You wanna see wrong? Look up the VanHAGAR tribute bands.
now...I have no need without Ralph. New guys are not so good it seems. But still a fun night out at a bar with friends listening to Vh tunes.Comment

I boycotted his band, and from what I hear it is very much his band, since then. What sort of a prick deletes hundreds of thousands of posts from thousands of fans of the band he's making his money from?
He nearly ended this site permanently and I don't care if it was 10 years ago and I'm the lone nut at the back of the bar shouting fuck him, I'll continue be that guy.
He's the reason we can't go back and look at the thread where Panamark became Mr RothArmy or my comic strip or you dishing out abuse as 'Big Pussy' and I can't forgive that...
Plus how much did it cost us in hosting fees for DDLR until this place could be brought back?
I'll happily join you at the back of the bar and buy every other round!!"If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”Comment

Just saw Completely Unchained in Smithtown LI last night (and I have the hangover to prove it!) They still seem to be the best VH tribute/cover band we can get out here. There was one other one I saw a while ago called Bottoms Up that were horrible (fat, wigs, etc.). These guys definitely rock, and they put on a good show. The lead singer, Eugene, is good, although he thinks he's Dave. I'm always on the fence about how "Dave-like" I want them to be. On the one hand, they need to honor and respect who they're paying tribute to, but on the other, I get pissy at times and say things like "he needs to remember he is not actually Dave". Anyway - he is good, and has alot of the Dave moves, despite his nipple ring, which grosses me out! They played a cool setlist, including most of the classics, Full Bug, Women In Love, etc as well as some new tunes (Tattoo and STW). HOWEVER - one major issue - the fuckin bass player is a spammy fan, and insisted on adding 2 spammy songs. Eugene doesn't even sing on them - the bass player sings em. I made a deal with my husband before the show that I wouldn't embarrass him, as I've done in the past when they did this (see earlier post in this thread!). So I simply walk off the dance floor, get another beer, and take a bathroom break (the lines are pretty long during those songs!). It still irritates the shit out of me - as I was trying to explain to my husband, that they don't differentiate between Van Hagar and Van Halen, and they just pretend it's the same band. It is not! These guys also represent themselves as a CVH cover band, although their logo is the ring of fire. They also have a slide show of VH pix going throughout the show, most of which are the real VH, but every once in awhile I'm grooving to a kick ass song and I look up and see a pic of big fat fatty on the screen - a bit jarring to say the least. Overall it's a great time, especially when the real deal is too far to get to (for now), but be warned if you plan on seeing them that this is something they seem to do at every show now. I fuckin hate that bass player!Stay Frosty!

Just another quick note - don't know if this is true for other tributes you guys have seen - some of the women at these show scare the crap outta me! There were some serious groupies - all seem to know each other, as if they follow these guys around. They were some of the most disgusting women I've ever seen - 50-year-olds in belly shirts and 250lb women wearing the same. They were groping the singer as well as the guitar and bass guys - seriously groping! I couldn't tell if they were VH fans or Completely Unchained fans. Nothing at all like the crowds I see at the real VH shows. Just a whole other weird phenomenon. Pretty entertaining though!Stay Frosty!

Hey Lady.....I know this is off topic..But I have YOU to thank. I was able to get Floor 2nd Row Ed....in Philly with those amex codes. I was shocked it came up. It was a PIA and I lost it at first, but got it back. I tried for L as well, but then kept coming up not as good so not worth it...Still keeping my eye open.... Are you going to the Philly show?
I still would prefer Middle (dave) section...so wll keep my eye open for that too...but I am happy about that...
I too don't consider VH, VH without DLR and Sammy in the place. It bothers me too..anything Sammy bothers me. I wonder if it is the visual of it/him that only makes it worse. But it was NEVER VH to me with him, or the other singers for that matter. VH is the chemistry as well. For some reason to me Wolfie fits that chemistry.
RE: Groupies...Well, let's just say some people are desperate..sadly... However, I love to people watch so sounds like you had a great time all around!!

I agree 100%...love some tribute bands...but when it comes to VH,,,I can't ever enjoy. They are TOO UNIQUE and special and all I do their entire set is think how far away they are from the real thing. And Eddie and Dave are so fucking excellent...when you imitate them..its a paraody...not a tribute. Raplh Sanchez was much better, but I get real hateful with these guys cause it's hard to be as good as our GODSComment
