Sorry to offend you with the truth. I must have missed the impact his searing leads and brilliant lyrics added to a continuing stale music industry. The problem with the MTV awards fiasco is we all know what Ed says happened, but Roth has actually rarely spoken of it.

I don't think Roth did anything to Beck worth mentioning. What was he doing that was so offensive? All I saw was him pulling his pants up in a funny way when they were standing back there. It's an MTV show - it's the music worlds version of Pro Wresling. It's pay to play and a joke, and the first person who will tell you that is Beck!

I don't buy Alex and his bullshit about Dave not being invited but tagging along anyway. Would MTV have even asked just Ed, Al and Mike to present? Would anyone have even cared?

So what if Dave was being Dave? Even Beck wasn't offended by it. "Oh, Dave was being very disrespectful to Beck." Who gives a shit?!

And as far as the Van Halens not lying to Dave, why were Al and Mike both saying in the post-presentation interviews "You can't fool the fans" and "the sky is the limit", all while Roth is standing right next to them. Were these references to Van Cherone? And even after the MVAs, they still wanted to make two videos for MWM and CGTSNM with Dave. Maybe they were trying to settle a score from when Roth bailed in 1985. Definitely an underhanded way of dealing with him.

May well have taken Roth a while to lay down the two tracks for the BOV1, but it took almost a year and a half to put out Van Halen 3, and look at what a slab of poorly produced shit that was.

Think a lot of the 1996 problems stemmed from control issues. Ed and Al had gotten used to controlling the band and calling the shots. There was an exploration into having Roth rejoin the band beyond the two songs, but it came down to ego in the end. Dave wasn't going to cowtow to the Van Halen brothers. Maybe if he had kissed their asses, things might have turned out differently.

We all know Cherone had been up to see Ed before the MVA's, and the Van Halen brothers were looking for an excuse to dump Roth, so we hear about Dave's supposed bad behavior at the show. Even though Alex was grinning from ear to ear the entire time they were presenting the award.

Jump is Van Halen's biggest single. Not Right Now. Let's get that straight.

Four Number one albums for Sam Halen vs. 2 to 1 in album sales classic vs Van Hagar? I'll take the 2 to 1 any day of the week.

And at this point, Van Halen need Roth back just as much as he needs them in terms of commercial success, unless half-filled arenas are your idea of kicking ass, in which case I suggest you need to set the bar a little higher.
