Haven't seen Van Halen live in ages but from the videos and clips I see of recent performances they almost come off as a cover band playing the hits of a far better band hoping for another gig to cover drink expenses.

Not sure I agree with that, but even so can't believe I'm reading complaints about the lack of kicks.

They could sure as hell use his background vocals! Roth sounds like shit and has less stage movement than Jason Becker! I thought Van Halen was playing in an empty room for rehearsal, then I realized it's Japan and nobody is taller than 5-3!

Don't get me wrong, Dave being back in any capacity is better then any other version of Van Halen.

Even if you take away the jumps and kicks, Dave just looks like he's having so much more fun.

And that is by no means an arena. Even during the DLR Band era, Dave treated every venue like it was an arena. Now he treats the arena's like they are some lame corporate gig.

I'm not expecting DLR to jump off a drum riser and kill himself in 2013. Dave looks bored on stage! Yes, Dave can still do kicks.... but even if he limits them he can still be a performer. The only movement he seems to be doing lately is the slipping and sliding around the stage, followed by a Michael Jackson spin and Jazz hands. I fucking hate the Jazz hands routine! Anyways, who knows what was wrong with DLR that night. Maybe he was bangin' his new Japanese girlfriend the night before. Maybe time has run out.... I think i'm with Von Halen on this, Dave looks like he's bored and just going through the motions. Dave has always been a performer, and by perfomer I don't mean DLR needs to turn the stage into the set of a Bruce Lee film, he just doesn't seem to have any stage presence lately.

There was a DLR show from New York '06 that I got from Donnie (thanks again pal!) that I thought Dave was totally going through the motions. There were 3 or 4 lengthy instrumentals where he just left the stage. I think that he was probably thinking that night 'well, this is it. Om done.'

The 3/4 reunion definitely reinvigorated him, but it does seem as though he's lost some steam and interest, more than likely, due to the slow grind to accomplish anything in that camp.
