The only thing that I don't like about Van Halen in 2013 is how scaled down the stage is. We wen't from a pretty decent looking stage in 2007 with lasers to now just the bare minimums for a stadium production, just a drum riser, a jumbotron and some lights. I'm not saying that VH should put on a KISS-esque stage show and blow up everything and make Alex' drums rise 20 feet in the air at the end of Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, but do a little more for God's sake!

True. But at the same time let the music do the talking. I don't need to see that shit anymore. These guy's are all in their 50's. Just play and play good ! The band is. Dave has been hit & miss. People are way to worried about him doing leg kicks at 58 ! Fucking stupid ! Get over it. 1982 is ooooovvveerrrrr ! And Dave's back has probably been telling him that since he was in his late 40's. His voice sounds a little better on the Japan stuff. They need too do more shows. Even if it's just a few a month or whatever.

Gotta say I'd rather see them in a Cafe Wha kind of scenario any day. The big stage with the lights always fucking on is exposing the current weaknesses of this band - namely, Dave ... I am sad to say.

As I said in another thread somewhere a few days ago: be creative, guys, with the light show and create some mood. And - at least (from an admittedly youtube perspective) - it wouldn't seem like time is running out on the band. You can mask some of the deficiencies by creating an atmosphere, etc.

But as long as they play these big shows with the jumbotron or whatever the fuck they are called, they need all the fucking lights on most of the time so they have visible images to relay onto the screens ...

I am absolutely certain that BEING THERE is fine, but watching the clips I do get worried that there's not much left in this baby. The show is totally ONE-DIMENSIONAL to me - there are no ups and downs, peaks and troughs, no sense of pacing or drama. It's partly the stale set list, but it is also the stale presentation.

Ed Van Halen, I have to say, is playing fucking brilliantly. So good on you, Ed, you old fucker.
