It's weird: Sound reinforcement technology has advanced in the last couple of decades, but the ability to run it is seemingly declining... lost count of how many shows I've seen where I wanted to kill the soundguy...

I'm not a sound engineer, either --- but in today's world of digital equipment why can't some dweeb place 20 microphones around the venue during soundcheck and let a computer calibrate the proper levels for all the instruments and mic and have it sound good anywhere in the arena/stadium?

I'm not an engineer either, but have gigged and teched enough to be relatively certain that any such calibration done at soundcheck goes not completely, but seriously out the window once you add 100-10,000 bodies in the room. The 1st song is the REAL soundcheck. A good soundman can pull it together quickly. But they seem to be a vanishing species...

My camera died before the end of the set, so I tried to record the second half of Jump, which was the conclusion to the entire show. As such, I took this on my iphone.
Apologies if the sound is shit, the video poor and/or shaky, I haven't even watched it yet myself. On the upside, I can't get anything off my camera until I fly home Monday.

Oh, don't get me started on butting heads with soundmen at gigs.. I remember I almost punched one a few years ago: Barely started testing my levels, and the idiot runs up on stage going "If your stage volume is gonna be that loud, I'm not gonna mic you!" only my fucking amp's master volume is on "2", and the bass player mere feet away on the other side of the stage is going "But I can't hear him..." ... some of them are sooooooo clueless. But then imagine that idiot eventually landing a gig running the board at a show of that magnitude...because it happens.
