    I second that...

Michael Anthony will ALWAYS be an important member of Van Halen, In my book...

You can't make magic with 3/4 of the ingredients...

      It's the truth.

While I'll say that Wolfgang fit in much better onstage when the 2012 tour rolled around, in 2007 he just...didn't quite cut it.

The backing vocals live in 2012 sounded good, but Anthony is the last piece of the puzzle.

I think the current lineup is doing the best they can, and actually a bit better than I thought they were capable of (considering how much time this band has wasted and how fucked up Ed was for quite a few years there)...but I can't shake the feeling that the band might kick it up another notch if Anthony rejoined.

How about the album? Can anyone honestly say that a Michael Anthony Van Halen right now would produce a better new album compared to one with Wolfgang?

Is Ed really going to dedicate himself to the same degree? I think the answer is no, unfortunately.

              Well, stranger things have happened.

I would pretty much kill to see the original Fearsome Foursome again.

Not out of the realm of possibility at all. While I take no pride in admitting this, I've sampled quite a bit of both CF CDs. Mike's bass and vocal chops are ions better than they were during the non-CVH years. Granted, he's viewed as a more precious commodity in CF, so his bass and vocals are turned the fuck up.

He always was and always shall be one solid-assed piece of a rhythm section where ever he ends up. I too hope the CVH puzzle is complete someday, but in case that never happens, thank God his replacement is no slouch either.

This. You nailed it, man.. and for the record - I want NOTHING to do with VH as a 5-piece, wolf on rhythm or whatever.. I'm fine with seeing Eddie with Dave.. if MA happens to come back in - great! If not, I'm cool with that too.. The original 4 will always be the kings.

But you can make a different kind of magic .
You yourself rate ADKOT over at least 1/3 of the CVH albums.

Sorry fella's I can't see van halen kicking it up a notch if mike was in .
For me ed is doing this because his son kicked him up the arse .
This is all about wolf for him , any future that van halen have new music or tours revolve around ed being happy playing band with the kid.
Ed is a notorious lazy destructive person , without wolf being there he would be sitting in howdy dowdy noodling away until what talent he had he had flushed away .

If wolf decided he wanted to fly the nest maybe that's a different proposition but in some ways why would he do that he can do both he proved it with the tremonti stuff.

Not sure I would even want to see a van halen with mike reunion if it went down like 2004.
Ed out of control with dave the front man , car crash entertainment trashing all our favourite memories nightly .

Nah maybe we have it better than we think.

If we are honest it's not mike we want , you get him back first gig its why is dave signing in that register , why the dance mat etc etc what we want is a time machine to have 1981 van halen tour now and that's not happening.

I should probably duck now :D

No need to duck. I'm just not sure I follow you. I don't think any part of a full blown reunion would turn out anything like 2004. That catastrophe was all on Ed. If we're dealing with older, sober and hopefully more rational human beings, for all intents and porpoises, all would be stellar.

I do think if we ever get to see the classic line up, we will all once again, owe a great debt of gratitude to Wolf.

                          I'd settle for a time-machine to 1996. The space-time continuum needs a little tweaking...

I can think of quite a few years I'd rather go back to than 1996...

1996 wouldn't even be on my radar...

The 90's in general were a drag. And yet, somehow, the music got worse the following decade...

First half of the '90s was real music. It may have been the first time in history that depressing, dark music was introduced into the mainstream but it had roots firmly planted in the great classic rock bands, notably Zeppelin and Sabbath. It was art.

Right around 1997 is when low talent bands took over and rap-rock/"numetal" was the norm from say 1997-2005. I do think music has gotten better since 2006, the fad finally wore off. While some terrestrial radio stations like WMMR in my hometwown are desperately trying to keep shitty numetal bands like Breaking Benjamin and Chevelle alive, their heyday has come and gone. You'll have to scour the internet to find real music but it's there.

By the way let's not pretend the mid to late '80s were a halcyon era for music. You had shitty hair bands and wretched British new wave abounding. It wasn't as offensive as numetal, and maybe it was fun growing up with if you were a teenager in that era, but the popular music from that period by and large sucked ass and has definitely not withstood the test of time.
