If you're into Dave, this one should be picked up. I'd rank it right up there with EEAS.

Production is a lot like a demo at times, agreed, but then those Sam Halen tunes weren't made any better with their production values. And Roth's voice is strained at parts, but this smacks of making an effort (check out Relentless and tell me that mofo wasn't giving it his all).

Little Texas, Goin' Places, King of the Hill....lot of great tunes that have been neglected live, and that's a shame because this album to me sounds like it was made to be taken to the stage.

Bottom line is it, along with EEAS, has more of the sound, spirit and intensity of classic Van Halen than anything Ed and Co have been able to come up with since Dave left.

      I think it's Dave's best solo album.

Here's some comments from some reviews back then to help you make up your mind.

"With very little fanfare, Diamond David Lee Roth has just released the best Van Halen album since 1984" MTV Online 1998.

"The album's first track and first single, Slam Dunk, establishes the formula here: Old Van Halen style guitars, Van Halen rythmns, Van Halen harmonies, the whole nine" MTV Online 1998.

"You hold up the new Van halen album next to this new David Lee Roth album and it's just so obvious who made the mistake" Rock Village 1998.

"Don't let its non-celebratory title and indie release fool you, David Lee Roth's latest cannon, simply titled DLR Band, is his most authoritive release since the Yankee Rose set sail in 1986" Metal Edge 1998.

"I can't quite figure out which is more of a triumph of the soul; the fact that Van Cherone flopped as bad as it did, or the fact David Lee Roth's new album is so damn good" Pop Smear 1998.

"For the proof of what we've been missing, check out Roth's new DLR Band release - cock struttin', adrenaline-pumping rock" The Inquirer 1998.

I agree with you Rebel, "King of the Hill" is a killer track. That's probably my favourite one, although "Little Texas" is also right up there. There's not a weak track on it.

DLR Band is not gonna sell what that flop VHIII sold, because it's on an independent label. It actually sold quite well for it's type of release.

Think about all the promotion that VH3 had against DLRBand cd, which had zero promotion.

the DLR Band CD is a rocking album. I agree; the production
could have been improved, but the songs are DLR driving rock.
Ignore what general VAGHINA says, this album should be in
                    your collection.

Using the "General Hina" method of comparison, it seems that ABBA and the Bee Gees are two of the hardest rockin' bands in history...

                        What a retard.

DLR Band is the best van halen album since 1984! worth every penny, Marlowe01. it's just a good, tough, back-to-the-basics, meat & potatoes hard rock album. pick yourself up a copy, and pick up a copy for your friends so they can listen along with ya!

oh yeah, that vh3 was just such a great album, let me tell ya! you're reaching for something that isn't there, pal. 90% of those units were purchased simply out of curiosity. i'm sure that every single one of those 500,000 people just loved what they heard! i'm sure not a single one of them felt disappointed or cheated, either. i'm sure that had there been a second album with cherone, every one of those 500,000 people would have just dropped everything they were doing and rushed right out to the record store to buy it. ass.

I think it's a great album. I think the raw sound of it works in it's favor....it doesn't sound overly produced or too slick (see: OU812).

I do think Dave made a mistake by not promoting it any more than he did. Didn't he tour with Bad Company right after that album came out, and perform almost exclusively VH material?
