Fact is, BOBW is doing crap compared to BOV1, and that's already apparent. News flash - sales are NOT going to improve...and then what? This whole "reunion" becomes even more of a failure than it already is... :D

asshole read the post about soundscan...get a clue...you guys are grasping at straws...

FIRST WEEK TALLY FOR BOV 1

According to VH Newsdesk the VH BOV1 sold 233,000 units its first week of release. I don't know how reliable this is but I know that it sold well over 200,000 as I remember looking at Billboard Mag that week (like I do every week). It doesn't sound like this new hits record with the hagar trax will do that at all. Usually Billboard has a comparison of a band's last album when a new one is released. I'll have the numbers as soon as I see them. In case the Hagar fans think I'm lying (since they can't stand it when it's proven time and time again that VH's biggest days were with Roth) go to Yahoo and type in Van Halen Best Of Volume 1 First Week Soundscan. That's how I found the total. Again, don't know how reliable it is though but at first glance it sounds like it's a pretty accurate figure.
        DLR/VH IS JUST BETTER

EVH if we are grasping at straws, there sure are a lot of straws to grasp. The bottom line is when you put it together and paint the picture, it don't look so good. Their only move is with Roth at this point. The only one. Or they could go for say a 4th singer....

I keep seeing the term being passed off as something meaningful but clearly I'm really curious as to what many of you define "a failure" as and why you think it of such significance???

Music sales have been in a steady decline for several years now. The only thing flying off of music store shelves at any clip is crap that 14 year olds want and even that is nearly half of what it was a couple of years ago.

So BOBW's doesn't go gold or platnum in a few weeks or months... big fucking deal. The music stores still make some money from what does sell, WB get's their cut, the band get's their royalties/publishing fees... Shit even Dave is turning some coin on this deal sitting on his ass in the northeast playing EMT...

Are they all going to pad their bank accounts with fresh millions? Probably not... but it'll probably be enough to keep their wealth in a 7 figure range for the near term.

Other than a bunch of dweebs on the internet ragging on... "oh man BOBW was a total failure, dude! It ain't even Gold..." BFD. It's not like someone is going to go up to 5150 and take all of Ed's guitars and amps away because of poor sales... Nope... Ed, Al, Mike, Sam and Dave are all depositing checks as a result of this release...

              Where was the failure again..?

To us, it is conclusive proof that choosing to work with Sam (what Ed wanted) vs. working with Dave (what fans wanted), has produced a negative net total. It's pretty simple, Ed didn't do what the people wanted and the people responded. So from many angles it's a failure. Financially, it's a disaster. Musically, it is another tarnish on the legacy. Most importantly, it isn't what the fans wanted.

You can say that they are artists and its their right to do what they want. I agree, if it is in the walls of 5150. When they leave those walls, it becomes a business. A lot of people are losing their shirts on this fiasco. Promoters, the label (they will be lucky to ride out the returns and make any coin) and the employees of said entitys are all going to suffer because of bad business decisions. It's what I would deem a "Failure".

To me the BOBW is not a Dave vs Sam thing. I just don't understand why they released it. It is too similiar to the first best of and the new songs suck.

The best of the three is mediocre at best, and that is mediocre for a noname numetal band. I am a VH fan from long ago and I expect better from them. Shit, there stuff is bad for Disturbed or Godsmack.

Also, regardless of how well it sells, (and I don't think it will) the defective copies will cost the record company and VH money in the long run. Even if people exchange their defective ones instead of returning them for a refund, it will cost money to produce new ones and dispose of the old ones...unless they turn them into coasters and sell them on van-halen.com I also, think that the defective cds will deter some people from buying the disk to begin with.

The failure is in the numbers. Where is all the sold out, standing room only crowds for this van hagar reunion. I remember reading countless threads over at the links about how a reunion with hagar would be bigger than sliced bread. Truth is, and I never thought I would say this, Kiss and Aerosmith own Van Helen
