If I remember correctly, Black Sabbath has been nominated every year since, oh, 1993 or so, but they constantly ask NOT to be nominated at all or to have their names removed from the running. As Ozzy put it, the admission into the RNRHOF isn't voted upon by fans, just decided by record executives who couldn't really give two shits either way, so Sabbath Inc. gives them the bird and tells them "When you let the fans have a voice in the matter, THEN we'll stay in the running. Sabbath wasn't about impressing critics and winning good reviews and kissing corporate ass, it was about the fans. When you include THEIR voice in your decision making processes, then we'll chat, until then, bite it." or something to that effect.

I say good. I can live without Sabbath being in the RNRHOF based on those reasons.

However, I am itching to see VH inducted just to see how it all goes down with David... :D

            Wayne, fuck you.

Comparing U2 to Motely Crue or Duran Duran?

U2 has been around since 1978 with the original lineup and they're still selling millions of albums and filling stadiums.

And besides their music which is in itself a significant contribution to this world, the members have given their time, their talent, and their money to a number of worthy causes which have helped real people. When the fuck has Motley Crue done that??

I would credit Run-DMC far more than Grandmaster Flash for introducing rap to the rock n roll audience. But having said that, there's no question that "The Message" and "White Lines" were two of the greatest singles in rap history.

And anyone who doesn't admit that "White Lines" has one of the best bass lines in the history of recorded music has got to be fucking deaf

Agreed. GRANDMASTER FLASH should be recognized. We all know that Run-DMC will get in there too.

However, I think it's ridiculous that bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Sabbath and the Sex Pistols that are highly influential have not been entered yet and could have been a few years ago. I mean, c'mon...The Pretenders? Conway Twitty did more for rock 'n' roll than Black Sabbath? Randy Newman did more for rock 'n' roll than Lynyrd Skynyrd? Now, mind you...the Pistols and Skynyrd have both been nominated, but how many times is it for them now?

The Hall is ridiculous...just another group that wants to make money and get attention by deciding for everyone else who should be remembered and who shouldn't. Randy Newman can keep writing crappy songs for movies, but nobody will remember him. Black Sabbath and Lynyrd Skynyrd will be revered for years.

Funny how The Pretenders get nominated their first year of eligibility...but Van Halen doesn't. Which band is more important in the history of rock 'n' roll?

Van Halen is not in there because of their soap-opera-like career.

                  There's really no other reason.
