Two observations:
1) Van Halen's new "Greatest Hits" is a failure. It was a sad attempt to convince the general public that Sammy is THE singer for the band. Fact is, most people (including Brett) didn't care. Van Halen sucks these days. They should probably break up. And the fact that I usually only hear classic VH on the radio (with the odd exception) and usually only find Six-Pack albums at my local record store (plus the new BEST OF) as well as only Hagar albums and VH3 at my used CD stores tells me which line-up the general public views as definitive. VH lost their attempt to write Dave out of history this year.
2) Brett really doesn't care. I don't blame him. I haven't cared about VH for a long time. I still care about Dave. I hope he releases a new album soon. I hope I get to see him live soon. Now, unlike Brett, I would love to see Dave rejoin VH (if they got their shit together and Eddie Van Halen stopped performing like a fucking drunk). Maybe I'd love it just to see all the Red-heads clear out of the Links in fear. But I still wouldn't care the same way I did in 1996. That feeling was unbeatable. And Eddie ruined it for a lot of people.
