    Two observations:

    1) Van Halen's new "Greatest Hits" is a failure. It was a sad attempt to convince the general public that Sammy is THE singer for the band. Fact is, most people (including Brett) didn't care. Van Halen sucks these days. They should probably break up. And the fact that I usually only hear classic VH on the radio (with the odd exception) and usually only find Six-Pack albums at my local record store (plus the new BEST OF) as well as only Hagar albums and VH3 at my used CD stores tells me which line-up the general public views as definitive. VH lost their attempt to write Dave out of history this year.

    2) Brett really doesn't care. I don't blame him. I haven't cared about VH for a long time. I still care about Dave. I hope he releases a new album soon. I hope I get to see him live soon. Now, unlike Brett, I would love to see Dave rejoin VH (if they got their shit together and Eddie Van Halen stopped performing like a fucking drunk). Maybe I'd love it just to see all the Red-heads clear out of the Links in fear. But I still wouldn't care the same way I did in 1996. That feeling was unbeatable. And Eddie ruined it for a lot of people.

I'm absolutely fine with Dave coming back, I'm just beyond sick of the juvenile bullshit this band goes through. It's no wonder we fans are the way we are, always arguing and insulting each other. Look at the fucking band members. But Dave with VH in 2005 ain't gonna touch, or even rival the glory years, so for me, I don't have a need to see it. I saw it when it was great, I have those memories. Sam with VH didn't excite me much either, but for me it was a way to at least see Ed play again.

I've just distanced myself from even caring, I haven't even followed much of the news or what Sam has said, hasn't said, blah blah blah. I just don't care, just let me know when something happens.

I saw a couple shows, I saw Eddie play. Ok good, life goes on.

Here's my question for you, Brett...

How deeply will you jump back in IF Dave were to come back and they announce it as a retirement album/tour shebang? Will it get you out of bed in the morning or will you look at it like Kiss' retirement 1996 revisited?

        Just curious.

Yeah, but those of us who have worked in music distribution have seen albums ship AND RETURN platinum. I'd love to see the #'s on BOBW 's returns!

If Dave comes back now? Well it looks dumb for the band to do anything else frankly. How much lamer can they be? They get Sam back again, then he leaves and they try to get with Dave again for what the 4th time in the last 8 years? Jesus just let it go and retire already. Call it a day.

But if Dave comes back, sure that'd be great with me. I'll buy whatever new music they put out, and go see them of course. I mean it's not going to be like it was for me 8 years ago, that same excitement definitely is gone. But sure I'd be into it.

Great example. Those albums lived in cut-out bins because the Marketing people thought they would each go Platinum right away. They were wrong. Thus, the albums were given Platinum certification even though a great many of those "sold" albums ended up in cut-out bins.

I remember working in a music store back in, oh, 93 I guess it was - at the time, Megadeth was selling really hot, so we got a brand new in store display for "Youthanasia" and just a SHITLOAD of copies of the album (I mean, we're talking boxes and boxes and boxes of CDs). It sold moderately well, but the Metallica "Black Album" sales that everybody was expecting didn't materialize (it sold well enough at first, but nowhere on the same level), so we ended up sending boxes and boxes and boxes of "Youthanasia" back after about 5 or 6 months, once it was pretty well established that it wasn't going to do any better than it was.

I recall my boss telling me at the time that, for Megadeth, it didn't much matter anyway because all of those boxes we got were counted as "shipped sales" to the RIAA, regardless of whether they got returned or not. Afterwards, we kept maybe 1 or 2 copies of it on hand, and never really had any call to get more.

Yes indeed, it will be interesting to find out exactly how many copies of BOBW have or will end up being returned as unsold...

"Youthanasia" was certainly no "Countdown To Extinction" that's for sure.

Based on the business that "Countdown" did, though, you can understand why everybody thought "Youthanasia" would go ballistic sales-wise...

                          BRETT----ARE YOU REALLY THIS STUPID?

Brett you are an idiot. I KNOW EXACTLY HOW THE RIAA bases its certification thresholds. NOT THE POINT YOU MORON. BOBWorlds has only soundscanned a little over 418,000 units. For an album with 3 new trax from band that hasn't released anything in 6 years and the "reunion" to boot this thing has failed. Just like the tour. And by the way the album only shipped 500,000 and since it's a double disc set it got the platinum certification. Your posts have no value. Go over to the links. They value useless posts over there. Stupid people are annoying.

Some great songs on Youthanasia, but in retrospect, I think COUNTDOWN is their strongest moment.

Truth, do you just want to argue to argue? Because you haven't said anything about the sales of this album that I disagree with. There is little to debate about with regards to the sales of BOBW. I think it's pretty common knowledge it's certified platinum, and hasn't sold 500,000 actual units yet. So move the fuck on and find something else to argue with me. I wasn't even arguing, just poing out that RIAA bases stuff on shipped units for those that maybe didn't know. So shut the fuck up already.

Countdown is amazing( I have great memories of that 92 summer when it came out), but "Rust........." is my favorite album. The second half of "Youthanasia" is horrible IMO.
