Sorry 667 but Ed's admitted several times that he made shit up when people asked him how he got his sound. He's mentioned the boiling the strings was a crock several times.

Now if you want to go scientific on it... go research the tinsel properties of steel, bronze, brass and nickel. Heat any one of those metals to 212 degrees isn't going to change their properties one bit other than warm them a bit.
