This isn't really a fair comparison since Sammy was in the band for 10 years and 4 albums (not counting compilations) while Gary did 2 years and one album.

I agree that Cherone sounds a lot like Hagar at times on the "Van Halen 3" album, but (as I've said numerous times in the past and will continue to say in the future) I think the "Van Halen 3" album is A LOT better than Van Hagar's "Balance". Plus Gary's live shows reflected the Roth era as well and he had a great respect for the entire history of Van Halen and its fans.

Still, I do like some Hagar stuff (both Van Halen and solo). I like more solo Hagar songs than Extreme songs, but Tribe of Judah was decent. As far as Van Hagar is concerned, I think "5150" is brilliant and I also love "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" ... but let the record also show that I think "OU812" is dreadful!

If Van Halen had more collaborations with Gary I may have a different answer, but for now, I prefer the Hagar selections overall because there are more Van Hagar songs to choose from.

They're both douchenozzle's. But I'll hand it to Cheroney (by a nano-degree) for his respect of the CVH era.

                Hagar for sure...

There is not a single VHIII song I can stand or remotely remember...

Van Hagar had a few good songs...

Most of his lyrics are pretty good. But some of the later music, say, anything after OU812, spare for FUCK was intolerable... Just saying.

Not really. It has it moments I suppose, but I think either "Black and Blue" or one of the other "rockers" (as opposed to the pussy bitch ballads Elvis holds his boyfriend too) was rated one of the worst (competent) guitar solos of all time...I think guitar-wise, things are a bit of an unfocused mess...

Who are you to judge someone's musical likes? It doesn't matter if someone likes such and such and they suck, let them be them! Who cares if Ou812 sucked, yeah it did, not going to lie, but that doesn't mean "Hey let's pick on Elvis"
