I think the trend started when it became "inappropriate" to physically discipline your child...I'm not talking abuse, but SPANK THAT ASS for cryin' out loud...
I've heard stories of child services being called on parents for SPANKING here, no shit....

I know fear of a serious ass-beating from my mom (or god forbid, my late ex-drill sgt. dad) kept me out of a LOT of trouble as a kid....

Anybody else have parents back in the day who would send YOU outside to get the stick for them to whip your ass with?
And god help you if you came back with what was perceived as a "twig"....
