Paterno Out At Penn State

No flaming here, you didn't wish my family dead or that we burn to death so I can be reasonable about this. I do disagree though, I know I could never root for ANY team again if they had been involved in a cover up that ruined the lives of so many children. The fact that they knew and did nothing caused more children to be victims. You guys can call bullshit all you want but I know I could never cheer for a team again even after everyone that was involved is gone, the memory is still there. Just my 2 cents.
You're projecting your vitriol net very far and wide to a lot of innocent people.
Should Ohio State football been shut down in 1978 after Woody Hayes choked a player on the sidelines? No, they made the appropriate decision and fired him. The person responsible got justice.
This witch hunt happening at Penn State is reaching laughable levels. Now people are saying to shut down the football program for good and perhaps even close the school. So let's punish tens of thousands of innocent kids who had ZERO complicity in this scandal? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

I agree ---- I think collegiate sports is far too much about $$$$ and so little about being a student-athlete. There is too much hypocrisy in the system --- such as punishing a kid for sellling his own jersey but then allowing him to leave school early to chase the big dollar contracts.
Congress needs to step in and make college football a private for-profit enterprise run by the schools --- the athletes are not students but professional players in a "training program" for the NFL --- and most of the profits go towards academic scholarships. It's a win-win-win for everybody involved.Comment

That's fine if it's your opinion, but don't stand there and try to tell me you would be just as outraged it this were to happen at your respective favorite college....
If this had happened at Michigan, or Alabama, or Virginia Tech, or wherever, don't tell me that you would be clamoring for your program to be shut down forever....
You nailed the truth, VA.
I live in Pittsburgh and I'm hearing a lot of Pitt fans gloating over this NCAA decision. It's based simply on longstanding hatred and jealousy that Pitt has had toward Penn State for decades. I'm sure a lot of Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Notre Dame faithful would be vigorously defending their school if the scandal happened to them.
Most people have child-like mentalities when it comes to a complex issue like this scandal and all the implications of it --- most grown adults are happy to act like retarded grade schoolers with their insults.Comment

But if they're smart, their entire coaching staff should be on the phone to 2012 recruits.....Eat Us And Smile - The Originals

Comparing Woody Hayes and Sandusky is really reaching. Hayes was fired, noone at Ohio State tried to cover his actions up. The comparison is laughable at best. Last time I checked putting your hands on a player and butt raping a child were not even in the same league of offenses. Give me a break.
You're missing my point, simpleton.
Punish those who are directly responsible for covering up the crime. I got no problem with Sandusky, Paterno (now dead), Spanier, Curley, and Schultz all doing prison time. They were directly involved and should pay the price.
I'm not cool with sanctions where 99% of the damage is directed at innocent students, athletes, alumni, and businesses who had ZERO complicity in the scandal. Too much collateral damage in this situation.Comment

Penn State allowed people to put that football program above not only the well being of young boys, but the law too. Who is paying the price? The kid that wants to play football there? Well, he can still play football there. If he chooses to go somewhere else, he can. Those boys that got raped, and had it swept under the rug, don't have a choice. If anybody in that area still wants to go see a football game on saturday, they can. Is Penn State really suffering with these sanctions? Maybe they should ask those boys about suffering. I said it before, and I'll say it again. This outrage and sniveling isn't about the education, because that can still be readily had at PSU. In fact, football can still be had at that University. So they won't be competitive at the highest level for a number of years. Waaaaaaa. Unfuckingbelievable. Even after all this, it's not about boys being raped, and what's right. It's about a fucking football program, and the money it generates. Oh, and it's also about some fans that can't find another football team to root for.
That football program should be executed, right along side Sandusky. That football program was responsible for allowing this guy to continue to rape kids! There isn't a football, or athletic program anywhere, that I am a fan of, that I wouldn't wish the same thing of. Sandusky, Paterno and the rest of that gang over there, are the ones making innocent people suffer. It's not the people that are handing down the sanctions, or calling for the death penalty. PSU chose to take a chance on not getting caught. They didn't give a fuck about the innocent people that might suffer in the future. Guess what? I don't care about them either.
But, PSU got the penalties they got. Hopefully they are harsh enough for this program to make sure nothing even close to this ever goes on at that Universtiy again. Hopefully the penalties are harsh enough to make every other program think twice about allowing this shit to go on too.Comment

The athletes are free to leave this year or at the end of the year. They get to keep their scholarships if they want. They aren't hurting. The students still get to go to games, even though those morons are defending JoePa. (Remember JoePa covered up ANAL RAPE OF LITTLE BOYS BY A ASSISTANT COACH FOR OVER 10 YEARS!) . They aren't hurt. Businesses will continue since there are still gonna be games. Some of the alumni could be involved in the cover up, I don't know.
I am an Indiana University basketball fan. IU was put on a 4 year probation, lost scholarships and a post season ban for 3 years because Kelvin Sampson made 500+ illegal phone calls. That is "Lack of Institutional Control". Penn State, from the university president on down, covered up ANAL RAPE OF LITTLE BOYS BY A ASSISTANT COACH FOR OVER 10 YEARS! This isn't "molesting", that word doesn't cover it. It was ANAL RAPE.
This isn't a punishment for Sandusky's actions. The courts will take care of that. This is for the COVERING UP what he did for over 10 years. Lack of Institutional Control."Don't try to confuse the issue with half truths and gorilla dust." - Bill NcNealComment

Like I already said --- you're casting a VERY WIDE NET of hatred and vitriol towards lots of people who had NOTHING to do with this coverup and are disgusted it even happened.
Last time I checked --- the U.S. judicial system doesn't indict an entire family along with a suspected murderer just because those people are related to the murderer. We go after those people directly involved in a crime --- pure and simple.
Yes, I agree PSU athletes and students still have a school to attend and play for --- but these sanctions will do a lot of long-lasting damage to many innocent people. Maybe you don't know --- but a big-time football program like Penn State provides critical funds to all other athletic programs on campus. That means lots of other kids are able to attend PSU on scholarships thanks to the football program. Do they deserve to have their scholarships cut because of a few criminals?
I also know some business owners in State College, PA, who rely on the big crowds during football Saturdays to get them through the lean months of winter. Now, there's a real chance they will have to shut down because of smaller crowds attending the games. Their families will suffer the economic effects of these sanctions. Are they guilty of any crime?
If Mark Emmert had any integrity or obligation to follow his stated duties --- he would've punished anyone directly involved in this scandal and let the players and students continue with their lives unharmed. However, he decided to pull a George W. Bush "scorched Earth shock-and-awe" campaign to hurt many innocents with his holier-than-thou moral mission. Shame on him!Comment
