I LOVE the fact that they never paid any attention to Peter Criss' solo album. That album has got to be among the top 4 worst albums in KISStory - along with Ace's solo album, The Elder and Carnival Of Souls. Sure there were SOME good stuff on each of the above albums, but they were the worst, IMO. And no, I haven't left any of the other albums out b/c they were still better than any of the above, in comparison...

                No way.

                Paul`s album is the shittiest.

I think Peter and Ace`s are the best as they showed what they brought to the group.

Paul`s is a look into the future, a precursor to the shitty, one dimensional Paul bossed albums like "Animalize" and "Crazy nights".

"Peter Criss", the album, gets a rough ride mostly from people who haven`t heard it, like most Kiss albums.

"Hooked on rock n roll", "Rock me, Baby", "I can`t stop the rain" etc., a lot of good songs well sung by Criss, Kiss`s best lead singer.

While I don't want this thread to sway away from talking about Dynasty, I have to agree with Mr. Badguy here.

Peter's solo album is actually very good. Lots of cool tunes on there.

Its just that most KISS fans think its rediculous because its not KISS-like or even hard rock for that matter.

But I happen to think its good, and far more interesting than what Gene and Paul put out.

This is another great fucking thread.

MEZ, if this keeps up, we're gonna have to start a KISS forum inside the Army and let maybe Vinnie mod it.:D

But anyway, yes...DYNASTY is an overlooked masterpiece.

It is my third-favorite KISS album...right after ROCK 'N' ROLL OVER and LOVE GUN and before HOTTER THAN HELL and DRESSED TO KILL (CREATURES and the others deserve room in here too).

DYNASTY is so unbelievably adventurous, well-played, well-written. This album may have pop hooks, but it's not drowned in keyboards or Suzy Creamcheese lyrics (unlike it's follow-up, UNMASKED). Almost every song is rooted in hard rock, and anytime a song is getting a pop groove, Ace'll play another of his best solos to stamp rawness on the proceedings.

The tour was also awesome (no, I was too young...but the Largo video is maybe my most-watched except for Houston '77).

RIKK's favorite DYNASTY songs (in order from favorite to least-favorite):

                          1. X-RAY EYES - Simply one of Gene's most under-rated songs...this has a helluva hook. Great verse and a chorus that stayed in my head for weeks after I heard it. The best touch? That little piano underneath everything, doubling the rhythm guitar parts, a technique that was also popular on the DESTROYER album. And check out Ace's solo!!!

                          2. DIRTY LIVIN' - My favorite Peter Criss song, and I love basically every song he did with KISS (apart from that monstrosity on the PSYCHO CIRCUS album...and like MEZ, I hate the solo album too). The lyrics, the amazing beat, Ace's feedback that kicks in on the descending-bass line hook after every chorus, the keyboards that actually work, the back-up vocals...this is the hookiest song on the album, really. I love it. I could listen to it over and over again.

                          3. HARD TIMES - Another Ace classic...right up there with SHOCK ME and ROCKET RIDE. The lyrics, the main riff, and that descending arpeggio part right after the chorus with Ace singing "I don't wanna be there/or even think back"...I love it. And this has possibly my favorite Ace solo...ah...actually...they're all my favorites. My favorite Ace solo will probably always be that psycho-solo in MR. BLACKWELL.

                          4. SURE KNOW SOMETHING - I actually think this is a catchier song than I WAS MADE FOR LOVIN' YOU. It's definitely a better piece of work from a songwriting point of view. I mean, how can any KISS fan complain about this album? Already, the top four songs on this album for me are on my Top 15 favorite KISS songs list. SURE KNOW SOMETHING is amazing pop songwriting, on the level of Lennon/McCartney, well-produced, a good Paul solo...a chorus that sounds like someone had to sell their soul to the devil to write it... And I saw them play it before me feet away in 1995 on the Convention Tour, and that was a magical fucking music moment. Classic KISS.

                          5. MAGIC TOUCH - Poppy, but really cool. Well-written. A bit cheesy, but I've always loved it. And that middle-eight with the acoustic guitars and Paul singing falsetto...gives me fucking goosebumps.

                          6. I WAS MADE FOR LOVIN' YOU - What's there to say? It's catchy, it's poppy, it's disco...and it fucking rocks. I love those cheesy keyboard notes on the middle-eight behind Paul singing "I can't get enough..."

                          7. 2,000 MAN - I really love this song...though I never thought of it as anywhere near the level of tracks like SHOCK ME or HARD TIMES. But it is undeniably catchy...and I'm a huge Stones fan. I still think the live versions are better than the slightly-stale album version.

                          8. SAVE YOUR LOVE - No reason this should be Number 8. I really like it a lot. It's got a great jam part at the end. The parts are all cool. The guitar work is great. The solo is awesome. It's just that compared to the seven songs before it, it's not quite as good. But it's still awesome.

                          9. CHARISMA - Nothing to say really, except that I just really don't like this song. I think it's crap...I hear no hook, nothing creative from Gene in the writing (same ol' I AM A GREAT MANBEAST lyrics), and extremely boring chords. I just don't like it at all. And this is the only song on the album I feel that way about.

Anyway, great thread, Vin. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of this KISS stuff in here...

"I decided to name my new band DLR because when you say David Lee Roth people think of an individual, but when you say DLR you think of a band. Its just like when you say Edward Van Halen, people think of an individual, but when you say Van Halen, you think of…David Lee Roth, baby!"!

great pics..bring back some serious memories...was all about KISS right up to this point...when Peter left the band, i got dis-interested..plus the fact that I got older (13 in 79)...KISS just became kinda lame..

Ugh....Peter's solo was bad. Ace and Paul were good.

Dynasty is a good album mainly because of Ace. His three tunes are the best on the album. Paul's "I was Made..." and "Sure Know Something" are good. Gene's "Charisma" is catchy but his other tune sucks. Peter was AWOL and his song, "Dirty Living" is awful.
                                Stay Frosty, muthas!
