Alice's 'Welcome 2 My Nightmare' is getting surprisingly good reviews.

It has to be better than 'Along Came a Spider'.

I've got a boner on for the new Lindsey Buckingham coming out in early September.
I am excited about the new Alice Cooper but cautiously.
I was pretty stoked about the last Halford, Ratt and Iron Maiden cds.
I don't get super hyped usually unless it is a Dave project ,-ie- the Diamond Dave album was probably the last time i walked into a record store acting like a complete dork. I think i was stuttering like, "You got the new D-D-D-David Lee Roth?"

I would add that the new Foo Fighters record, 'Wasting Light', is very cool. It is a flat out rocker from start to finish, and unlike most Foos records has little in the way of filler.

Their best album since 'The Colour and the Shape'....

The last album what really has 'surprised' me etc etc etc was fucking MOTLEY CRUE in 2008 with 'SAINTS OF LOS ANGELES' , I'm not a big fan of them but this album rocks and still does!!

And now it's time for one album for all of us and that must be the new VAN HALEN cd , I'm getting tired, angry, nervous etc etc of waiting for any fucking news 'bout the album of the century!!!

Without a doubt for me it's Mastodon's Crack the Skye. To me that's the best rock record in a REALLY long time. First new virtuoso guitarist I've heard since the Deleo/Cantrell cartel in the 90s. I noticed you specifically didn't mention that record. You must be a purist. Those other two albums are great too but Leviathan is to similar sounding throughout. Iron Tusk is one of the best songs of the decade though. Like Them Bones or Immigrant Song in it's brutal simplicity. Pair it with March of the Fire Ants and you have a combustible combination!

Yeah buddy! Just bought Stone Rollin yesterday. HOLY SHIT THIS IS HOT!!!!! "Just Don't"? Jesus it's like Jimi Hendrix Axis: Bold as Love mixed with Sly and the Family Stone! Incredible. Great record I am lovin' it.

The tunes are really good, but the sound of that album as a whole is what I love about it. You can really tell it was recorded to tape. Especially on the stacato delay part of Rope. You can hear the tape compress nicely. Good job to the Foos for doing it the way it should be done.

I know a lot of people pan the last GnR album. There's some good and bad on there tune-wise. Regardless of whether or not you like the album, you have to agree that the production on Chinese Democracy is fucking stellar!

The reason I didn't mention 'Crack The Skye' was because it didn't exist when I made that post! It is - without question, IMO - the best album I heard between 2000-2009. Whether I like it as much as 'Leviathon', 'Remission' or 'Blood Mountain' I couldn't say, as to me it's like picking your favourite between Led Zepp I-IV or 'Kill 'em All', 'Ride The Lightning' and 'Master Of Puppets'. Impossible.

I've seen Mastodon 4 times now, and they bring it live too: saw outdoors recently and it sounded like the earth was about to implode!

It you haven't already, check out Baronness - like a more stoner version of Mastodon. They have two records, 'Red' and 'Blue (which I reviewed in the 'Album Reviews' thread, along with 'Crack the Skye').

Agreed about the tape - it gives 'Wating Light' a real warmth.

'Chinese Democracy' wasn't the pile of turd some reviewers made it out to be. There are a few too many ballads, but the biggest problem to my ears was that all of the tampering robbed the songs of their raw power....

Yeah I think we even discussed our live Mastodon experiences in an earlier thread. That's funny. You know they're good because as a guitar player I can figure out most songs and I used to be able to play most Rush classics, but I have no idea what the fuck those guys are doing. No clue at all. Just nasty. The way they somehow bend pedal tones in harmony on March of the Fire Ants is just the sickest thing I've ever heard.
